Super Perfectionist
Hi,

I'm 13 and recently made an EP that I recorded at home, wrote the songs, lyrics, played guitar and vocals. I put it up on Bandcamp, and I was wondering if I could get a little feedback on it. Thanks a lot, it will mean a lot! :)

Taka Perry

Hi!
I listened to your first song and vocals seem to be a bit rough. I mean your voice is a bit shaking here and there also it's too much in front for me. I think turning down the vocals and adding a bit chorus and reverb would a lot.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback, I've been recording for only 6 or so months so I'm pretty new to this. What do you think of the track 'Like Me'. I'm pretty confident it's the best track of the EP.

Gave it a listen - rap vocals are good, but singing has same problems as previous song.

Do you have monitor speakers or good headphones?

No, I don't have monitors, headphones are decent. I use speakers.

Posting in the MP3 clinic section of these forums will get you more responses - if you do the same for others.

Is anyone else hearing Lou Reed in this???

That should back up what Seidy is saying, and give you confidence in equal measure, because I never thought Lou Reed was a polished singer by any stretch,
but I'll happily listen to him.

Listening to the whole mix, I guess your speakers or headphones are bassy, because there's not enough low end coming through in this mix.
I did enjoy it though. Keep at it. :)

I listened to another world, I'm on my laptop but I can definitely tell that the vocals need to go down

but, after skimming through all of them, for 13, that is very good :)

Thanks guys! I went into Studio One and looked at my master EQ and saw this.

Problem.webp

WHAT WAS I THINKING. :spank: Anyway, I guess that's how we learn. If you could take another listen (I fixed them) I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks again :)

That's a lot of low end cutting, but yeah - that's how you'll learn. ;)

Be sure to listen your songs on various different systems - boomboxes, in car, earbuds...

Yeah man, but my earbuds are so bassy, almost every song on my iPod sounds too bassy.

That's why I barely use them :P

Maybe you've got better speakers, I don't know, but if you don't here's something you could do for the time being.

This is far from ideal, but.......

Drag a commercial song into your daw and put an eq on the master.
Play with that eq until the commercial song sounds great to you.

Now mix your own song with that eq on.

When you're finished, take the master eq off and assume everything went to plan. ;)

It's far from ideal like I say, but it could be a useful reference if you're stuck.

I did something similar. I downloaded Voxengo SPAN and looked at a commercial song, and compared the frequencies with my song. Turns out a LOT of low end was lacking in mine ;)
