I wanted to make my 1680 24bits adn this has 24bits outs, so I wanted to get this to do this, also Im told it will add warmth.

Im not sure if I should get this since Im on a budget. I can afford this though if needed.

Could I get your opinions on this so I know if I hsould get it or not?

Thanks!

Also in my home studio do you think this difference in tone would be subtle or bigger?

heres my equipment -

1680 Dig Recorder
RNC compressor
TA1600 power amp and Yorkville YSM1 monitors

I'd save my money for something better down the road. Using a 24bit ADC will not make your recorder 24bit.

thanks for the reply Tex, but I was under the impression that I would be going 24bit than.

My Roland 1680 has 24bit outs and the ART has a connection so I can hook up to my 24bit outs and record 24bits. There was a long discussion in another forum were people said this was possible.

Maybe I didnt explain it right Tex or maybe Im wrong, so could you explain your thoughts on this so I know if Im making a good investment?

With a good 24bit converter- yes

An ART converter wouldn`t make an improvement in your rig, and it would certainly not add "warmth"......

Need is very subjective. What else does your signal chain consist of? Amazing recordings have been engineered on cassette four tracks (ie Elliot Smith)

24 bits will give you more headroom. I don't think you will notice an amazing change in sonic quality though.
