Hey all

You guys are usually very helpful when it has come to giving me input. I have just finished recording a brand new album, and I'd like to hear some thoughts on the recording and mix.

http://www.mp3.com/moderndaymiracle

i recorded all the songs with a cheap MXL condensor mic and N-track with a few plug-ins.

Check out the songs:
-A Life I Used to Know
-Cancun (i wanted to keep this song raw)
-Point of No Return (especially the mix with the ending, wasnt too sure about it)
-Nothing Left to Wait For
-Looking in the Wrong Places

all the other songs are older recordings.

thanks a ton!

Hey,
I listened to "Point of No Return". I like the git progression and melody. Nice tone as well. The lyric "our back yard has tutned into the front line" or close to that, is a cool line.

It sounded like you were pushing the mix a tad too much. It came across as hot on my end.
I liked the vocal harmonies.

As far as the end, I thought the song could have gotten there a little quicker. Once there it sounded like every track (instuments and vox) wanted to be dominant. Choose what track you want center stage and mix accordingly. The mix needs some spreading out IMHO.

I listened to a chuck of Cancun and again thought the mix was hot and too crowded in the middle.

I liked the acoustic tone. What are you playing and how are you miking it?

Hope these comments help some.

Peace,
Theron.

Here are a few I listened to:

112 HOWARD AVENUE - You've got some acoustic and piano stuff here. The piano could be more surrounding as far as the stereo image goes. The acoustic guitar has some of that fret noise you'd wanna get rid of (and I'm not talking about any farting sounds this time :) . The vocals are everywhere on this song, which is ok, I guess. That kid talking there is weird, but I guess you have your reasons :) It could have been mixed more to the background, using some reverb or EQ to distance it a little. Kinda doing like some of the stuff in The Wall with the additional sounds. The song itself is a bit long. I guess you could shorten it a bit, if you wouldn't mind cutting out some of those background sounds.

The rock version is pretty good. The drums are nicely mixed, and the guitars are also pretty good here. The cymbals sound a tad too loud comparing to the other drums, but not that much. The playing of drums is pretty noisy. You could've played them a bit more gently. There's so much of the cymbal work and crashing, and I'm not sure they work with the song. I understand this is a rock version, but I don't think this should rock THAT much :)

A LIFE I USED TO KNOW - The singing is mixed a bit strangely. Is there some de-essing used? It sounds a bit too much like spitting while singing, you know. It might be some EQ-thing that makes it, but the singing style is also kinda druggy, which kinda fits the song though. This is a nice little pop-song with some nice backwards sound-effect stuff and a nice melody. Those drums are not my cup of tea, but I think they work on this song at least.

thanks a ton for youe listens and thoughts guys. very appreciated. :)

anyone else?
