I LOST THE GAME
I'm looking for a midi controller. peferably under 300$. What do you guys think?

Does it have to be a controller? I use an old synth with a nice feeling keyboard.

First off, the Mixing Techniques forum isn't the place to solicit advice about gear. ;)

Secondly: where did you get that avatar, you little bastard? :laughings:

I use a Casio FZ-1. It's a sampler and a digital additive synthesizer, not just a controller.

It's simple enough to plug the MIDI OUT into whatever you intend to use as a sound source. What might that be? Anyhoo?

What?????

What do you intend to use as a sound source? You know - what will make the instrument sounds?

uhhh dont you get some with line 6 or reaper? those are the programs i was planning to use. Will I need something like frooty loops?:confused:

My advice would be to get a simple USB controller like a Alesis Q49. Then download some free vst instruments, you can find tons on a site like KVR audio. You will need some kind of a VST host. There are free VST hosts on KVR also. Yes, you can use Reaper as a host, but there are no instruments in it, you would need to add them into your VST folder in Reaper.

A simple way to start out is to just download a free VST host from KVR and start playing with the different instruments from there.

Thanks for the site suggestion, Dave!

I've looked through it and found a few that apeal to me. Free of course.

Tyson isn't actually here to record anything... he just posts vague threads so he can get his post count up...
