So what would your opinion on using AKG 535 as overheads? I've been using C1000, but I'm looking to try something different. I'm not sure what I don't like about the C1000, but I just don't like the way it sounds. Of course I know you can't tell me what mic would work "best" for me, I just want to know if 535 is even worth trying.

535's

My guess it that you would be quite pleased at the difference. Although you don't hear them discussed about much, the akg 535's are quite versatile, great sounding mics. I've got a pair of them, and occasionally they have been seen hanging over a kit. The mics have a 'presence' boost; it's gentle and smooth enough so it usually 'enhances' rather than cause problems. To my ears, they are in the same ballpark to what you might get out of some mxl 603's, and those are usually pretty good when used for overheads.

So I just finished tracking w/ these mics on a punk band. What AWESOME mics! Now I see what people mean by using the overheads as the main mics and the close mics to fill the spaces. I also used a SM57 close to the beater and a M88 about an inch or so out of the sound hole.

It's good when each project I do is better than the last.

Still, so much to learn
