Hello -- when I hold the Select/ChEdit buttons, and Power Up my VS-890, it tells me that I have v. 1.011 as my operating system. It seems to me that it should have a newer system, no? I am looking at buying a Plextor 12x CD-R/W burner, but according to what I read, I need a minimum of a 1.012 to make it work, and a 1.014 for optimum compatibility.

Anyone know how I upgrade my OS, and how much that costs me? Seems awfully strange that my OS would be so dated in a new machine (it also says the manufacture date was 1/15/01).

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I returned the one I bought, but besides that, you should be able to find that upgrade at the Roland website, at least that's where I found the one for my VS880EX, not that it did me any good, but if you need it for the CD then you need it. That does seem a bit strange, but that's Roland.

Got the upgrade version 1.014, but...

...I'm wondering if when I download the new OS v.1.014 into my Roland VS-890, will that effect all the recordings I've done on the machine so far? In other words, will I have to initiate the disk again to make it operable (and consequently, lose all of my work so far)?

Has anyone done this procedure yet AFTER they've recorded? I just would hate to lose about 140 hours of work I've done thus far.

Thanks again!

I don't think even Roland could be that cruel. Call them just to be sure.

I wouldn't take any chances, whenever doing a disk enhancement / IOS version upgrade/ or anything that could even remotely have an effect on stored data there are only 3 things to remember.

1) Backup your data

1) Backup your data

1) Backup your data

and once that's done "Backup your data"

So did it work with this Plextor burner? Give us poor Roland users an update.

I've just upgraded to 3.205A on my VS-880, & I'm wondering if I have to buy the overpriced Roland burner.
