thanks for listening!
vox, is always a subjective thing...
can't expect everybody to like that kind of thing...
it's like, whats your favorite color?

haven't heard 'fire theft', i'll have to hunt that down...
vocals deeper... for some reason that reminds me of a spinal tap joke....!

hey man, nothing wrong with high standards! my standards are pretty high, so i can't fault anyone for getting into it....
i appreciate your candor and your kind words though....
and the drum thing, well, it's so subjective..
again, drum response at end....

yes, i'm singing.... doing all parts, except for the drums ( i only WISHED i could play drums!)
yeah, i dig the forum comments, because it always helps me see things from different perspectives...
it's very helpful, even if i don't happen to agree.
the album is done, complete, if you wanna take a tour, go here:

hehe, hate it when i disagree with myself...
LOL
yeah, it's a critique.
and i don't care if someone points out if it's a home recording or not....
there have been pro releases through the years that were done as a 'home project', so i don't know if it's that big deal or not.
obviously, being able to go into a real studio to do all the tracks would have been so fun! and would have sounded better still......
and i don't pretend that my engineering skills are even up to snuff with the great majority here!
(the drums were done in a real studio).
but, alas, i'm not dirt poor, but can't afford a studio....
so i do these things on my own.
the difference in this album, versus just a collection of tunes, was that i spent several years writing tunes that were more or less geared towards this kind of album..... i wanted it to sound more 'classic' than modern, which influenced the way i recorded/mixed the drums.
i spent a lot of time listening to older classic recordings..
everything from zep and beatles, to jazz recordings by different artists....
the thing that struck me about all the particular recordings i really dug, was the more 'natural' sound of the drums....
not in your face, like modern drum style...
not like NickelBack.......
the mixes too....
they were more organic, more natural, with nothing really hyped, but a more smooth across the board sound....
so, yes, some of the drum mixes on the album are more blended.
this was a concious decision on my part, to not sound 'dated' by any kind of specific drum sound or heavy duty compression and gating.
now, i dig that sound too!
and i have lots of modern, recent recordings that i love the sound of that kick ass in your face style....
but, when i got the drum tracks, and listened to the sound of the kit i decided that i needed a different approach to the overall mix. (which was something that i discussed with the drummer before hand: he is more of a jazzer than a rocker, and we decided that it'd be better to let him play naturally with a sound he was comforable with, and i'd mix it accordingly)
the drums came first, and everything else was recorded and blended into that.
so, it the kick was really deep without a lot of head snap, i tended to mix it in that way and mix the other elements around that.
it IS a different sound than the typical release, but that was exactly what i wanted.
this guy plays kit like a jazzer that's kicking ass.... not a rocker who wants that motley crue drum attack, that's a lot of high end....
so, there was a concious decision to make this album sound different than most of the recent releases i've heard, and i hope it stands the test of time.
thanks for all the great comments folks.
i always learn new things from these comments, and try to take all the good stuff you guys throw out there and run with it....
