Rock Star 87

I made up this dumb song about my friend, and I decided to take it a step further and make it into a bonus track. It was all made with synths, but it's supposed to sound kind of garage bandy, but with good mixing nonetheless. What do you think of the mix. Believe it or not, it took me 3 weeks to mix. Pay attention to the bass, that's been a bitch. Any suggestions?

AMEN!!!!!!

i just asked for your opinions, not unfounded criticism. I only wanted REAL criticism.

it's almost to good to be crap, but to crap to be good.

record the entire thing on a reel to reel, or old 4 track and mix that back in with the track. (maby hit it real hard?)

all the crap is harsh and thare's no likeable crap

Which brings me to my point....this could use synthic cowbells.

Hey Rock Star...are you being completely serious here? It's hard to tell, you said it was a joke but then you act like you are getting your little feelings hurt.

it's a joke song, but i was getting mad because no one was telling me anything about the actual music. I want it to sound like it was actually recorded in my garage, but I still don't want to lose any parts in the mix. So in essence, I want to sound like I was trying to get it to sound good, but I just missed.

Ok, geezus...listening again...sorry.

BAHAHAHAHAHA.....wait, you're serious?

It's not good, not good at all. You did something right, I'm laughing.

I suggest a different song, you can NOT spend one single month more on this song.

I didn't hear a whole lot of clipping. a little adds to the effect. just think of shitty recordings in the hand of an amatuer mixer. Here's the possible scenario I'm going for.

My friend and me got together in my garage, possibly a bit intoxicated, and came up with the dumbest lyrics possible, but it was funny nonetheless. We hooked up our guitar to a tape player and recorded that. Same with the bass and vocals. The drums we recorded individually. In the end, I ran off the taped recordings and did everything in my power to make them sound professional.

Does it all make sense now? keep up with the suggestions though.

I think this thread explains a lot: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=147017

As for this mix, I listened again while typing this (and again and again cuz it's only 0:17). It sounds terrible. Noisy and clipping. Every instrument is easy to make out, though.
Yeah, Rockstar, sometimes it's hard to tell if you are serious. As far as this goes, if it's supposed to sound like a couple guys goofing around in a garage, you probably succeeded, but if it's supposed to sound pro at the same time, I guess it still needs some work. I can't pinpoint things for you because I am not listening to it through my monitors, only the pc speakers here at work. But Jake's ears are pretty sharp. Maybe you should retrack it if there isn't any way to fix the mix...

I'm with the rest of the crew - that's horrible.

In this case - job well done! :D

i'm just gonna send it in. it's sounds good for sounding bad, and that was my main goal. As long as I can hear every instrument, i have succeeded, horribly I might add. thanks for the negative comments. Thats what i was looking for. It's funny in that indie stoner kind of way. and I stand corrected about the whole drum stick thing.

I changed the mix a little. No more clipping, I brought the bass drum up some, and brought the vocals out some more. let me know if this is the one.
