Sorry sjoko2, I was warned , now I have to pay for it.

I did this track with the Blueberry, and I can tell you first hand that it does not play nice with my sytek. It sounds like someone running fingernails across a board(I read that about a TLM103) I got an M-audio dmp2, but I have not tried it on the blueberry. Maybe tomorrow. I have a suspicion that I will need eq or a tube preamp with this mike though(a great excuse to start saving for a PEavey vmp-2. I still prefer the sound of the c414b/uls.

I am using a new mixing technique and I would like to know how it works on your monitors. I quite like it but it needs a lot of tuning.

Song is called

Celtic Dance

And, I still hate the sound of these freaking Plugin Reverbs. I think that any decent outboard box will be ten times better.

THats pretty wack... I would putmsome crunchy guitars in it :)
DId you do the vocals or where they from something else?

I have not tried reverbx but I can assure you that it wont compare to a good outboard.

"I am the real Harvey Gerst." That's hilarious.

There are some vocal intonation problems that probably don't have anything to do with the Blueberry. I think that this reverb, and any reverb, is better when you use less of it.

The drums sound a little flabby and bassy, like they were taken from vinyl, and then on the left you have this nice crisp hand-drum sound. Then this really crisp, hifi vocal. It just sounds like you have to do some work on your samples. A mic that costs that much deserves to be laid over a bed of really crisp, phat drums, not over the lo-fi ones you're currently using.

The best part is when you start doing the vocal harmonies, I dig that.

thanks charger.

I keep hearing stuff about intonation. WHat on earth is that anyhow?

I dont think that less reverb is better. I personally like some 80s records that had lots of 'nice' reverb on them.

I actually used less reverb because I hate the dang thing. WHen I get a real reverb I'll be slapping on lots of the stuff.

I got the drums from my roland jv1010. Added some mad compression and boosted 60 by about 8 dbs. I think its the boost that you are hearing. I also boosted 2.5 by about 12 dbs. I think I will reduce some of the 60.

I am still working trying to get the mic to sound less crisp. I want more big and intimate. I guess I'll be using my trusty sm58 till I get a good sound.

They have a 2 week fully functional demo on the REverbX, you have nothing to lose by trying it and spending a day tweaking it to see... for what it costs, there is no reverb within $1000 of it that will do better. Try it.

Yeah, that ReverbX looks sick. But I can't spare the system resources... I don't even want to try the demo, for fear that I will like it too much, and I'll have to upgrade my system to handle it.

Hey,Cyan I dug your tune . Very eclectic mix of different styles of music. I heard some kind of growl or overdriven kind of distortion at the end of some of the vocal phrases.Could be the mikes character, could be intonation. My tlm103 gets a little of the same raspyness on my drummers vocals.

thanks keith,

I think that I might have driven the pre a little hard because I set the ad converter too low.

Also, I found out after recording that I had been using the wrong cable. THe blue cable that came with the mic is too bright for this mic. Now I use a regular cable and use the blue cable on my 4033. It makes the 4033 shine.

Cyan, I thought your song was really nice! That's cool that all your instruments came from your Jv1010. That's including the drums? You said the lyrics were a mixture of two languages...I couldn't identify them, what are they? And what do they mean in English? I think of Celtic as and old language of the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh. What inspired you to do the song? I played it on my Peavey monitors and it sounded good and clean; I didn't catch any reverb problems. Great Job! :)

Thanks langleyt,

Yes, all the instruments came from the jv1010. Including the drums. The drums are what I hate the most about the jv1010. To me they already sound quite dated. I hope to get a sampler one day.

I had the idea one day and said what the heck, I need the experience.

Unfortunately, the lyrics are not from the scottish. I used Italian on the verse and chorus and Yoruba on the bridge.I dont know what it means hardly. I just got a text that had translation and picked out words that I liked. I think the first line means something like "hymn of love"

Interesting stuff! I like the mix a lot. It has a real cleaness to it if that makes sense. I love the deep reverb, it fits (even though you don't like the software). Great job!

lol I write my lyrics much the same.
