What do you guys really think about these pre's?

There has been so much hype (a lot of it from Mackie) about them. I'm at a point where I need a couple more pre inputs but I want decent quality. I keep thinking about the new Onyx 400F's that are coming out that have 4 pre's. But then I've got my eye's on something like a Toft Audio ATC-2. In speaking in terms of just the preamp do you guys think these Onyx pre's are in the same league as the ATC-2 pre's? I don't really need the 400F as a recording interface but it would be a step up (but not a big one) from my 1010 unit. I'm also going to budget in a couple small diaphragm condenser mics, or at least one maybe a SM81.

The new Onyx pre's are far an above the older VLZ-x series pre's. The have a much more natural sound to them, and seem to have better headroom as well. As far as the ATC pre's go, those are different. Whether or not they are better is pretty subjective. The Onyx preamps seem to be a little more neutral. The ATC-2 however comes with a wonderful EQ and a nice compressor:)
