Only something true could be this funny.

This is a song I whipped together from a voicemail left on a buddies phone.

First a little background. My pal is a landlord and he had a "nightmare" tenant. Right about the time that the tenant was late on rent for the 3rd month in a row the tenant called up and left this message on my friend's phone. It is classic. I have hardly changed or edited the subject much at all except for the very end.

Oh by the way in the end the guy had to be evicted, caused over $15,000 of damage to the house (broker 11 windows, burnt the kitchen cabinets for firewood, had turned the basement into a farm so to speak ect.), and assaulted a worker who was sent to try to get the place looking better.

Listen closely and it gets even funnier. For instance the guy makes his living as a professional painter. Listen to the song and you'll see why that is so funny.

As far as the mix is concerned I know of some changes I'm going to make now but I'd also like to get your opinions on that. This stuff is too funny to be made up.

Oh yeah I've titled it Landlord's Lament.

I want to hear what everybody thinks!!!! Let me know!!!

funny, not funny? Sounds good, sounds like crap?

Give it to me straight!!!

Whats supposed to be funny?

If funny was what you was shooting for I'd say your off the mark.

Ok I can't listen to anymore.

I think it's very funny. I especially liked the way you made "one-big-huge-brother" into a rhythmic element. Good job.

a.

It's not hilarious or roll on the floor funny. But it is a really interesting idea of turning a stupid message into a song.

It is funny enough to crack me up a couple of times.

Interesting how you made him sing "one big huge brother". How did you do that.

Cashmere sweaters. LOL. He went flying across the room? I guess it is almost hilarious.

However, what is really cool is how you provided the background music and made his voice trail in places. How you panned and played panning games in places.

Overall, very good. :)

That was outstanding. I didn't laugh, but it's cause I didn't know him. If you did that with a certain unpopular politician's words you'd certainly get a bigger reaction because of the familiarity factor.

Good job, dude.

Well you could do that with Condi's speech. She's quick to condemn everyone and everything. I haven't seen her say anything that means something so far. Only that she condemns everything that every other country does.

That would be a hilarious song. :)

Cool man... pretty original idea in my opinion. There is definitely a humor thing goin on here. You have no choice but to think of what this apartment looked like. I liked it man haha.

That's a great idea. Thanks for the listen.

I think earlier posters are right in that it isn't hilarious to us because we don't really have the full context. Eg. if you didn't give that blurb up front we'd have no frigging idea what the hell that was all about. But knowing a bit of the story and piecing it together, that is pretty amusing.

That kind of stuff would be a good soundtrack song for some movie. You'd see the action that would "explain" the lyrics. I read a good songwriting book once that said this is probably what people mean when they say some song would make a good soundtrack to a movie: that it doesn't stand up by itself. So maybe you should also make the movie. I think that would be funny :)

Cheers

Yeah, I guess I overdid it claiming it to be totally "funny" and hilarious. I kind've meant that it is both funny in the "ha, ha" way but also a bit funny in the "weird" way.

I mean this guy is calling up with the most elaborate excuse for missing rent ever...and he tells us about his cashmere sweaters and stuff? He lists off his brothers' drug habits like they're playmates lifting off their turn-ons or something I heard in my head---"My one brother is in to long walks along the beach, horsebacking riding...and cocaine...specifically crack."

He tells his landlord on his rental application that he is a professional painter...then in the message he said that he uses a guitar to make his living....I hope he's not painting with his guitar!!! LOL

Anyways, I'm more concerned with it being good than being funny. I think that it is unique and even if somebody didn't know the back story they might be saying "cashmere sweaters what?" and really pay attention. I have changed the mix a little bit recently. I have tightened up some of the delays and effects. I've also added just a few extra things. I'll post it shortly.

Thanks for the feedback. Oh yeah I did this all in Ableton Live which is a snap to cut and disect audio. You can also time stretch things super easy which is how I got him to rap the "One big huge brother, One big huge brother".

thanks for the feedback guys.
