Does anybody know of any Online Ludwig dealers that carry Ludwig bass drum claws and t-rods? Any place that also carries Ludwig maple bass hoops would be cool too. Thanks.

I don't know of anyone online. Locally I would give Sandy a call at Boulder Drums. He's got a bunch of old used stuff and I wouldn't be surprized if he's got the claws T-rods you need. After that I'd try Rupp's, they've got mega-tons of old stuff. They are both a little bit of a drive for you, but you could prolly get them shipped cheap locally.

Are you putting together a vintage kit? Are you looking for brand new Ludwig parts? Tell us about it.

I'm fixing up my 1965 black diamond pearl ludwig 4-piece (12-14-20) drum set. I've had it for almost five years and never thought much about it. I bought it for about $150 from some neighbor of a friend. It was missing all resonant side heads. I didn't care, I was just starting out, so I proceeded to beat the hell out of the set, pretending I was Dave Grohl.

Fast forward to two months or so ago, I bought a D112, SM57, and matched MXL603s. Went to record my drums, and realized they sounded AWFUL. So I posted in here asking what I could do to improve the sound of the set, one thing led to another, and I realized my set could sound decent with a little work. And might be worth a little money. So I bought resonant side hoops for the toms, and now I need to buy two new maple hoops for the bass drum (had one but it cracked, other was missing.) I also need the claws and t-rods for the resonant side of the bass drum.

Nick6572, a member here, has been offering me tons of advice on how to fix up the kit, and what I need to do. He's been very helpful.

Sandy's is way cool. He's such a nice guy. Do you remember his old shop on Pearl? My dad did the demolition on the building, and brought me home the big blue note that said Boulder Drum. But, it was lot bigger than we thought, so we decided we should let Sandy buy it back if he really wanted it, so he did. Last I saw it was in his front window.

But I really don't want to buy these parts from a local drum shop, because they usually order them and then mark up the price. I figure I could get them just as easily as them, if I only knew where to go.

Yup, I remember the old shop. Years before that it was called "The Music Center", and was a full service music store, I bought my first pair of sticks there! Sandy used to work down the block as the drum expert at locally owned ProSound back then, but that's like 15 years ago.

Anyway, when I think of old Ludwig stuff, I think used, which is why I was thinking local instead of mail order. Good luck on your parts-finding mission, it sounds like you got a screaming deal on the kit, so the cost for the parts will be well worth it.

It turns out that Ludwig hasn't changed their claw and t-rod design for like 50 years. Used is good, but hard to find. I think I'll call Sandy and Rupp's. But, it's a long drive and I never have anytime.

I remember Prosound when it was by Sandy's drumshop. I was sad when it moved to Westminster. I used to go to Sandy's, Prosound, and then over to Robb's religiously in High school. Always scavenging.

Thanks ColoradoJay, it's nice to know I'm not the only person in the world from CO around here. Sometimes it feels like it.

I've conversed with a couple of other Coloradoans from the board.

One guy lives up by Allenspark, and does some homerecording with live drums etc. If memory serves he was picking up a pair of B1s for drum overheads last time I traded email with him.

There's another guy that posts here by the name of Lunatic (or LunaticSomethingOrOther)- actually his name is Brad. I bought a DMP2 pre and a headphone amp from him a couple of months back. He's got a 2 car detatched garage that he is turning into a pretty full-blown studio up in Evergreen. Yeah, it's a bit of a drive, but it is going to be a pretty damn nice studio, complete with live room, control room, full acoustic treatment/design. Plus if you are going to spend a bunch of time trying to track something serious, why not do it up in the hills where there is less distraction. I may try to see if I can get my current project up there for a demo track or two.

I think he's going to be offering studio time pretty cheap when he gets it finished, to get everything dialed in, and get some reference work together in his new rooms. I need to hit him up sometime and see how his project is going. He also said he wants someone to go up there with drums/cymbals for a free session so he can get used to the new room, I might take him up on that.

Everyone else on the board either lives in Europe, or really close to Andover, CT., I think... <(c;
