Some real cool stuff happening here, but I'd have never guessed that a drummer mixed it. Sounds like a guitarist mixed it. It's just a bit guitar heavy.
I'm a guitarist and I'd like to hear more drums and bass. So we'll see what some drummers & bassists say!
Who are the other players? Any folks from this board?
I really like this kind of stuff. I believe the drums could come up in the heavier parts. I love the dark atmosphere. The entire mix could be a little less muffled. Other than that nice job. Uuummmm...more low end on the guitars. VERY COOL!
The drums could stand a little more volume. They also sound a bit flat and need some reverb especially on the slower sections. Some of the guitar parts sound like bees in a glass jar. When the tempo speeds up there are some timing fluctuations. Overall I liked the tune.
I like the dark/gothic kinda neo-classical vibe. Agree about the drums being a bit lifeless and dull...the snare struck me as being a little dull, and as others said the drums get a little buried at times...very cool playing . I like the drum playing after about the 4:00 min mark as the tempo starts to pick up...kinda went into a vintage Sabbath type jam feel. SOng held my intrest all the way thru, good stuff !
Hmmm, thanks for the comments. While there will be vocals, they will be done in the far future, after all the other songs are done for the album.
So this is what I should probably do.
Bring the drums up
Apply reverb to the drums? (though I'm not a fan of artificial reverb) Last time I recorded without my gobo I was told me drums were too lively.....c'mon people!
Bring back some of the mids in the guitar (it was way too muddy before, I think it sounds much better now....I could maybe dial a tiny bit back in....)
