Im collabing right now....though in the twice ive done it its definitely preferential being the one adding to someone elses project rather than the other way round..

and technology can stand in your way, Im PC based and he's using a standalone and we've came up with certain timing issues, when his bpm reads 162 its actually 161.7 so the tracks go out of alignment

I think its worth investigating what format the other person is going to use...it doesnt bother me as i have all the hours in the day but if your the one collecting the files and putting it together then thats where the headaches can begin

It's interesting because this forum stands apart from a social-opinion perspective. Just wanted to note that I find it a twilight zone. I've been to other forums that are very pro-online-collaborative. Also interesting here, many people seem to not care as much about commercial aspects. Not to say that money should rule but everyone likes to make a living doing what they love.

I guess that was off topic.

cheers :drunk:

In general, I am indifferent to online collaboration. I've done it. It doesn't either excite me nor am I really against it. *shrugs*

In contrast, just for the sake of the dialog, I've collaborated in real life both live and in studio/writing... always have some kind of friction if not in the creative process then in the legalities. I also tend to know more about my rights than some others I've worked with: but not nearly an authority. I think that makes some people think I'm trying to beat them because I am knowledgeable about my rights regarding my contributions. Frankly, I think I'm more than fair...downright giving.

I've assisted drum-challenged home recording enthusiasts more than once... Some through contacts on these boards, some via Facebook/Myspace.

I don't think there's ever been a time where my name wasn't listed in the linear notes giving credit on the songs I performed on.
I like doing it and it's a tremendous learning experience for all involved each time...

:)
