Do you ever collaborate over the internet? If so, what's your experience?

The other guy forgets what I ask him and I end up doing it myself.

Though seriously... What can ya do? Sing? Dance? Play the spoons?

I wish I had someone to do vocals for me and often I am looking for actors for my radio books (British accents preferred - but you never know when we might need an American accent.)

Dr. V

I've done a few songs where I've supplied the music and performance to others' lyrics. I won't do it anymore.

I collab'd with one girl and then she goes touting that she had her song demo'd and didn't give me the credit due for co-authorship. Not that it made much difference, but it was a slap in the face. I also have a problem with sharing copyright with people I don't know.

Ouch! Yeah I have coauthorship with one of my exes for one of my better songs. That is kind of awekward.

That is terrible, now how did the two of you work out custody?
Did you get the standard every other week end and holidays and he got what was left over? :D

Answers on a postcard, please.....

Why would I want to work with people that aren't as good as me.

a)To demonstrate your superior athleticism
b)So that we may eat crumbs from the Master's table
c)I haven't a clue
d)So that you can travel through cyberspace and see the virtual universe

a/ You already know this..
b/ I don't drop my food..
c/ Self evident..
d/ I am omnipresent..

It's interesting because this forum stands apart from a social-opinion perspective. Just wanted to note that I find it a twilight zone. I've been to other forums that are very pro-online-collaborative. Also interesting here, many people seem to not care as much about commercial aspects. Not to say that money should rule but everyone likes to make a living doing what they love.

I guess that was off topic.

cheers :drunk:

In general, I am indifferent to online collaboration. I've done it. It doesn't either excite me nor am I really against it. *shrugs*

In contrast, just for the sake of the dialog, I've collaborated in real life both live and in studio/writing... always have some kind of friction if not in the creative process then in the legalities. I also tend to know more about my rights than some others I've worked with: but not nearly an authority. I think that makes some people think I'm trying to beat them because I am knowledgeable about my rights regarding my contributions. Frankly, I think I'm more than fair...downright giving.

HR is just full of *free range musicians* and *mustang recording engineers*.
This is no cookie cutter, mass assembled locked stepped community.
We are all just free spirited souls drifting along a time line and this twilight zone known as HR makes it possible to sharing our lifes experiences.

I've recently been curious about this. I'm really getting tired of the local search. I've always been worried about the "rights" and copyright stuff. Does anyone know a "music callaboration and copyrighting for dummies" resource?

Art for arts sake....just give it all away Mark.

Good point. I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm not trying to sell anything. It's just that uncomfortable feeling that I might hear one of my songs on the radio and all of the sudden my shirt breaks as my muscles enlarge and my skin starts turning green ;)
