So, I pulled this Behringer MDX 4600 out of our FOH rack, and stuck it in the recording chain .... just to see what it sounded like.
Good God, what a racket! (Can't say I wasn't warned. Just don't look at me like that!)
It sounds like somebody's sealing up a snake in grandma's tupperware. And then, once the things settles down and the input signal is essentially gone (from a bass guitar, btw), it sounds like a train's passing by 5 miles away on a quiet night.
Piece o' crap, this thing! It's fine for live stuff...nobody's sitting in the audience with headphones on, critiquing system noise. But I've gotta get something in the studio that's worth having.
I've seen plenty of recommendations on this board, but none that seem to fit me like I'd like. I only need one or two channels, I'm compressing vocals, I can spend maybe (MAYBE) $300.
