I wanted to do something fast, not speed metal fast but something that could move a person.

Heres my latest done with CEP 2.0, POD, and bunch of other stuff.

Its called "No Maybe's"

I really interested in finding out how its mixed.

Thanks for helping.

Muahahahahahaha-I like the opening-you just know its about to explode heh. Reminds me of ministry(havent thought of them for a while)-To be honest I dont like the effects on the vocals-they cover up everything-I lose the guitars when you sing-I'd rather hear the vocals through a distortion pedal or really dry and compressed-they need to sound mean. I like the general feel of the tune though. Not really qualified to give detailed mix comments.

Strat

Same views as Strat really thought it was pretty good except the Vox which need compression and detail. Niice use of dynamics at the start and bridge

hey son,

cool tune.. imhop I think you need to turn up the intensity on the vocal delivery.. Get a little more angry, raise the volume of the music in your headphones so you have to push your voice a bit more.. I liked it.. I just wanted a bit more feeling in the vocal delivery.. I dug it though! The mix sounds decent, but perhaps some of those vocal suggestions Strato made should be considered.. cool tune.. a bit 'Orgy' sounding! :)

The song, delivery and mix are good. It has that *underground* feel, more alternate than metal.

The *house* beat at the start is pumping, but doesn't dominate in the rest of the song. I think you could make it a little more techno, and provide a contrast with that wall of guitar sound.

Thanks for the replies, I will revamp the vocals and repost to see what you think.

ministry

was my first thought too( scariest damn pit i've been in:eek: )
looking forward to the new version!!!

hurry!!!!!!!!!!:p

peace

This tune really drives.
On the vox, I thought it might be more effective to cut the delay on the last line of each verse (the verse after "no maybe's" and double the vox up instead (maybe have the second vox really adement and screaming).

Just a thought.

eager to hear the remix:)

peace,
Theron.

what I can dig in the piece are the phat bass line and the progression of the piece.

The genre is not my cup of tea, but you did a fine job.

It sounds like it would work great in a game.
Funk on!

I really like the gtr riff. I'd like to hear a wider stereo spread on things. The vocals cut thru good and I liked the repeat echo. the techno drums where a little boomy to me, when on their own, but sounded fine in the total mix.

nice kick butt tune. I really liked this a lot over some of your other stuff.

Gtr lead?? (pleaze)

Thanks for the input. Im glad to hear the instrumentation is all okay. The hard part is the vocals. It wont be long and Ill have the remix posted.

Mixmkr - I suck at lead guitar, I would love to be able to rip a cool solo in the breaks but Im not able to pull it off quite yet. Once I have a band put together this would all be nice.

Thanks again.

you know...another thought on the solo..since you seem half interested. .. Is.....it doens't have to blaze the way, van halen style... Some of the coolest leads are ones like Gilmore's, where the tone and "THE" note are the articles to die for. Clapton tries to do that now, but isn't as proficient at it as Pink Floyd, imo.

(Vanhalen still rules for me after all these years too...;))

Thumbs WAY up on this one!!!

This thing rocks!!
I really like the guitar sound. Is that a Pod??
This is my wifes kinda music more than mine but we both give it the high sign!!

hey sondriven, your avatar dancing in the same tempo ... cool

did you play on single coil pickups? the mix sounds good.
cheers

Thanks FED and KING,

Yes a Pod. Its funny there are about a million different combinations for it and I only use maybe three settings. Give or take a tweak here and there.

I go through a really cheap setup except for the guitar:

97 Gibson SG Standard with 10's loaded on. Humbuckers on the Bridge pickup of course -> POD 2.0 ->Presonus BlueTube->Alesis NanoCOmpressor (only to help level the volume) ->Small Beyhringer Mixer-> into computer.

Thats about all. I add a tiny bit of reverb but not a lot because there is so much of it in the mix already.

Thanks for listening, and glad you liked it!

Im uploading an alternative Vocal to the song. Sung basically identical to the previous version, but with some low octave pitchshifting. Im not too crazy about it personally but I wanted to get some thoughts about from you guys. I think Im going to keep the first mix with the delay. It probably more muddy in the mix but its what sounds good to my ears and I have to face it, Im in love with delay.

But heres the link again to both versions:

Thanks again all.

I think I like the original vocals better...with the echo.

the intro needs something too... The mix of the intro seems unbalanced, until the gtrs come in. ...kinda bass heavy. Then it takes off..........................> whooooosh

Must say that I liked the other version better. I like the delay. I like it better when I hear the delay slapped into place. That is to say, used when the track wants it and cut or manipulated accordingly. I tend to shy away from delay cause I can't control it how I'd like. Wish I could think of a good example but, I like it when I hear delay used, abused and then put in it's place (stopped suddenly, rate and decay drastically changed and such). I like it when I hear delay that I know wasn't just put on the track and left to its own devices....I can't always tell it what to do and where but, I think you could on this tune. Make the delay your bitch. Use it and kick it to the curb when you're done. Don't let it hang out for the whole verse delivery but, cut it off and bring that bitch back when you're ready for it.

Sorry for the gruff language. I'm just trying to type my thoughts.
Great song, I like the first version better and think you could improve it with a thick harness on the delay.

peace,

Theron.

I liked the vocals in the first version better. I'm thinking that you could possibly get a better take though . There were a few words here and there that kind of landed with a thud - they weren't sung as smoothly as the rest of the song. Screaming the "No Maybe's" might be cool too.

I liked the little break at about 2:12 and the panned guitar. I also liked the crazy distortion on the guitars.

Yeah I guess the first one is better, but there were a few things I liked about the second..

Hey Sondriven,
.....Yea, Im hearing the Ministry too. The guits are great....nice tone. I agree w/ the comments regarding the lead vocs. You might try experimenting w/ thinning them.....that is, taking out some of the low mids.....and maybe even clipping them a little more.....(ala Ministry). I dont know how that might sit w/ the rest of the mix, but making them edgier might add to the aggressive aspect of the song.... cool stuff g:D
