I don't know if the SPDIF INPUT is working on my sound card. I'm definitely able to go spdif OUT and it works fine.

But for some reason, I don't think my spdif IN is working.

I did a quick test: I tried going from my sound card's spdif OUT to it's spdif IN, figuring it would probably make some sort of ungodly noise or feedback or something. Hmmm. Nothing. I look at my sound card's inputs, and still see no levels.

I go spdif out of my a/d converter (Mindprint D.I. Port) to the spdif IN on the sound card (Delta 1010LT), and still no levels on the spdif IN.

Is it possible I'm missing something - probably something really obvious and potentially embarassing, I suppose? :) Does anyone know of any quick tests that will give me a better idea if it's the sound card or if it's the a/d converter? Or was my test sufficient enough?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmm.. I hooked up mineto the out of my podpro and it worked fine. I just hooked up the out on the pod to the in on the delta, and the word clock, and it worked fine.
 
Do you have any other Spdif devices to make sure the DI Port is sending properly? Doesn't the DI port have some dip switches or something for sample rate? I guess start with the obvious and make sure it's set for the same rate as your card and software.

I've been thinking about getting one of those. How is it as a mic pre?
 
Unfortunately, I don't have any other spdif devices to test it on. Shouldn't going from my card's spdif out to it's spdif in do something at least? (Like maybe create some God-awful feedback or something if it works?)

Perhaps I should try using optical cable instead of the RCA? The RCA spdif input isn't the only digital input I have. Just that an optical cable costs like $40 at Radio Wack. :) Will it sound better, do you think? If so, then I'll get two (one more for the digital out).

Tex, the preamps on the d.i. port have not disappointed. They have actually found a place in my Sound Labs as my "go-to" pres when micing accoustic guitar or tamborine. They have a slightly-exaggerated, but very detailed high end that does just the trick for that sort of thing. And they have plenty of gain that is quiet as a mouse, for the most part. I was pleasantly surprized. I originally bought it from Sam Ash because it was on a blowout sale ($200), figuring I could sell it on ebay for at least $250 when the sale was over and make some money. It's not leaving, now. :)

And from what I hear, the a/d conversion isn't half bad, either. Would be nice if I could find that out. :)
 
Don't know if this will help, but:

On my M-Audio DiO 24/48 card, you have to select the digital input using the software that came with the card. You can choose between optical, coaxial, or internal SPDIF from the cdrom drive. One will not work if the other is selected.

Wouldn't have posted this if M-Audio and Delta weren't related, but I figure some stuff remains the same.

Thanks Brad. I will check that out. I can't seem to find it anywhere on my software, but I'll keep looking.
 
Yeah, I'd check the soundcard's software. In mine (Delta 66), you have to manually select spdf in.

I tried to conect spdi/f in with out on my Delta 66 and it worked.

I set one track to output to spdi/f out and set another to record on spdi/f in. Also in Delta control panel Patchbay/Router I set H/W Out spdi/f to WavOut SPDI/F and it worked fine.

Oh and when I set it to Monitor Mixer I get the aufull overload noise so be ware. Didn't try the other settings.

As for Marty, I think he's having a bad dream. Someone dump some cold water on him and wake him up!

I messed with it, and got it to work. I did discover my problem, too, which is kind of good and bad at the same time. My A/D converter (d.i. port) doesn't recognize a valid clock source when I connect it to the digital in of my sound card. If I set everything up so my d.i. port is the master clock, everything is hunky-dory, and it works great. But it won't work if my sound card's internal clock is selected as the master. Which isn't good, because I'm going to want to use my sound card's clock when I'm running like 8 inputs at once.

Very strange. Oh well, looks like I'll have to spend another 2 hours on the phone waiting to talk to someone at M-audio technical support. It's a good thing they're in the Pacific time zone. :)

Now you really got my curiosity going. And it's driving me nuts. What thread are you talking about? I just got back from the newbie forum, and all I could find were a bunch of dumb questions. :) :) :) And I haven't been to the newbie forum in ages, so I can't find any of my supposedly-innapropriate responses. I did see something where someone obviously took my advice and took on a female alias and went as Tricia. Good going, whoever that is. But I don't go by Tricia. :)

Come to think of it, my female better-half hasn't had to come here in quite some time. If she did, I'm sure she would have asked something like: "How do I get my SPDIF to work right with my sound card?" :) But it looks like I didn't need her help on that one this time around.
