Wow! What a fun and exciting time it has been on this BBS recently.

I couldn't believe the gall of Aphex/A_Super_Critic on a number of levels; the rudeness, the ignorance and the repressed desire for attention. Contemplating such matters with guitar and spliff in hand, this little instrumental thingy came out.

Let me know what ya think......

The song is titled 5c.mp3 but called "On Questions of Madness"

Thanks,

:) Q.

(I really hope he has gone now......)

Hi Qwerty...

at the beginning...I think the lead should come out more and the melodic arpeggio-atic should be further back in the mix...
The "build" of sound at 1:33 makes a good break to the acoustic guit...very good playing here man...
The pause to the bass seems just a tad to long to me....
The electric tone and playing with the bass is super good...
the builds after are also super good.......
I did not particularly care for the synth sound and again...the ending synth sound is perhaps a tad too loud....

All in all man...this was a great improv....very cool..I dug it.

Now pass that spleef this way man :D

oooooops.................

Just uploaded the correct remix.........

That should address some concerns, Joro :)

Qwerty,
That's a damn nice piece of music. The only thing that jumped out at me was the overriding keys in the beginning of the song....and it's only because I'm a guitarist, but I could hear a couple of guitars harmonizing there instead. Pretty nice arrangement! As far as the mix is concerned, I didn't really hear anything that I couldn't live with...but then again, I'm still learning this stuff and I'm not really qualified to comment.

Thanks bd :) Can u give me a time reference so I can nail down what u r talking about because there is no synth at the start - it's all guitar :)

Ciao,

It's OK I guess. Sounds like maybe a jingle for a show.

The lead guitar needs to be MUCH louder - it should be solo loud.

But it is pretty good for just being "thrown together".

Pretty cool. I love the break at about the 1:30 mark. To me that is when the song really takes off.

By the end of this I was totally into it. There was something going on with the tone in the beginning that I was having trouble with. Almost sounded like the lows were up a little much...but it may just be me.

All in all I really liked this! :D

Hmm... this may be the best I've heard from you Q. What's that? The organ w/rotating speaker FX on the left? Interesting. Chromatic/downward progression. Large soundstage.... good use of reverb.

It is a bit undefined... in that the bass could use more definition... and the hardpanned instruments just sit on the sides like pink cake icing... they don't really blend into the mix per se... you may want to try just a tiny bit of room reverb to bring them in....

Second pattern... very nice... the mix is better here, though the drums... esp the snare could sound better. The snare's ambience doesn't fit the room, which makes me wonder if it's a sample...

Second listen...

Lots of amp noise on the intro guitar... but it kind of fits. Bass distortion... Yep... the other instruments sound apart from the drums... w/the possible exception of that guitar up the middle...

Acoustics in the second pattern are sweet... only thing really sticking out is that snare-ambience. Sore thumb.

Very creative effort. Must be a real bear to mix :)

Crystalstudio may have a point re: theme song vibe
especially with the strings in the mid section.
I liked it as a jam session.

entertaining stuff

Gladly! It's difficult to tell exactly where the part starts because you did a really good job with the flow, but starting at about 0:31 is where I'm talking about. Here I'm only assuming it's keys (I hear one slur that makes me suspect it could actually be a guitar) You even bring in another keys at 1:00 to harmonize and then they both get lost in the mix at about 1:06 - 1:15. Anyway...tell me it aint keys......then tell me what you used in your signal chain if it's guitar.

:) Them's guitars my friend :)

I am using an EQ to feed delays timed to eights and quarter beats to then got thru diff. fx. ;) Ones a modulating, ring thing which people hear as the "Leslie" or synth sound..... There is also one very, very faint synth kettle whistle sound that exponentially fades up to become the scream and explosion thing at 1:30, but I don't think that's what you're hearing.

I also am coming to think that my sub-woofer isn't turned up loud enough meaning that my mixes are coming out muddy.....

Thanks for your feedback - it helps feed the beast within!

Damn.

That's a real nice piece of music.

I really like some of the instruments you've chosen.

I love the bass. I think some of the electric guitar parts clash at around the 2:30 area.

This is nicely done though, plenty of changes.

I think the keys are drowned out in the mix when you have them in.

But I like this a lot.

I like it.

I it like I am hearing Chaos, but in a controlled environment.

Definitely.

I almost missed this because your subject line looked like a non music post. I'm glad I caught it. This was nice!

Now I'm interested in what actually is synth. I'm a believer that whenever you got a synth sound in mind, you can usually get something better with guitar or other instruments. You sure do a good job of getting lots of sounds to work with out of that guitar. Makes for a cool arrangement here.

Mix was a little hot right off the top. Lot's of character, haunting tune. Drum track is great, real drums?
...cool!...this would make a killer movie soundtrack. The hard panned guitars work great in this, reminds me of Weber and Rice.

I thought I heard some scary spikes near the beginning, but great work!

Very cool.Spleeef works for you!Lots going on.Some great sounds in there.Love the build before the acoustic rythm.Sounds like this was fun.Nice layering.gets a bit muddy here and there but not to any point where it's a big problem.Nice work. And FUCK APHEX/A_S_C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's late, and I only gave it the once over... but I will listen to it again.

Very cool piece.

I gotta' admit...I was scared to listen for a couple of days, lol...or even to read this thread.

Glad I took the plunge. There are some little noise issues here and there, but it's mostly overshadowed by the WEALTH of cool sounds. I have to read this thread to see where you're getting the bass from...it's a cool fucking bass line...wondering if it's on a keyboard - doesn't sound like a keyboard at all to me; it's just a complicated bass line that I wouldn't expect to hear on a real bass...either way - I like this a lot.

It looped for quite awhile, and nothing besides the faint noise issues at the beginning popped up.

You're very very very talented, lol. Can I borrow some?
