I have seen this topic in the past but cant find it using the search, so here go's!!

I have talked to a few pro studios and it seems they all leave their gear on 24/7. Is this advisable in a home/project studio?

Any comments or advice is appreciated!!

24//7????

they don't even turn it off when they leave at night?

Nope!!

apparently, their logic is that turning it off and on all the time is the most damagimg thing they can do to their gear!!

something to do with current flucuations...........

It not only has to do with currrent fluctuations, but with temperature fluctuations as well.

And that would be another one of those endless discussion-points?

Temperature changes are bad. So is high temperature.

I could go on for hours...

Well. Maybe not. :D

If you don´t turn off your equipment, it will sound same next morning - no warm up time, no burn in time caused by temperature changes - sound consystency is major thing of big consoles. Fo example, every channel of 120+ input SSL board is designed to last forever if powered with stable, balanced and filtered power supply. Only victims are electrolyte capacitors in power supply, which are drying with time and losing capacity, so must be replaced in 3-4 years service intervals.
Here at CroRec mixing boards are always on, outboard is turned off except if in extended mix.
You can leave your home studio turned on, but supply of your console is not designed to work in stand-by, it is rated 100W max , and is not modular ( with replaceable parts ) like pro unit, rated 2000W . Small analog mixers are relative simple in electronic layout - no audible change, so turn it off - it will last longer. ;)

Unless your electric bill is paid for by somebody else, turn your
equiment off!
