hello,
does anyone have/use this product? because i have a few questions about its use.

i know a question i dont need to ask you, why do you no longer own the omni breakout box.......

but seriously, i am unsure wether the problem lies within the omni or within sonar.

i have recorded a song using sonar. i have added some reverb using an external reverb unit. when i try to convert the wav files within the song to MP3 format, it does not record the reverb.

is there something i need to check or uncheck to record the reverb?

i hear it during playback, but when converting, you dont hear the playback. it just converts it internally.

any suggestions?

I only returned mine after the C-Port made its debut (to me anyway) but found the Omni to be a straight forward unit.

I think you're probably right about the reverb issue being software based in nature. It stands to reason that the omni acts as a dormant gateway to transfer signal to the computer. Any conversion of the recorded file is more likely being done by sonar.

It's odd that you hear the reverb on playback, but not getting it to the Mp3 file. The Mp3 conversion should be a static routine also.

i think there may be something i dont have set-up correctly in sonar that would allow me to include the reverb when converting to MP3.

i appreciate your help with this. you have helped me to see the problem i am having more clearly. what i will do is check in sonar a bit more carefully.

thanks again!!!

I don't know squat about Sonar beyond the fact I wish they'ld send me a free evaluation copy! :D

You guys got snow on the island?
No snow in Louisville, but damn is it cold (18 degrees)!

hey,
yes, its pretty freeeeikin cold here, we got 21 degrees. not quite as cold you guys.. but at least theres no snow!!!

i have a question to ask you. private message me...

The only way it wouldn't record the reverb from the WAV files is that the reverb has not been recorded in the WAV files. In studio lingo, the effect hasn't been printed. When you apply the external reverb you must be routing it to the monitored tracks only, and so you hear it but it's not being printed to the audio track.

I agree

I agree with Alchuck... there is no way that I can possibly think of that a piece of software (Sonar) could "remove" a reverb effect when ripping to MP3. Try to playback the .wav file again and in the middle quickly switch off or unplug whatever reverb unit you are using. If the reverb dies, then you haven't printed the reverb "into" the .wav file, instead just shooting the signal through the reverb unit on playback.

no, i havent recorded any reverb. i just simply increased the effects send level on the omnistudio breakout box to the amount i wanted during playback and left it there. then tried converting to MP3. i got the MP3, but no feedback.
but today, i went and bought a CD burner from sam ash with some christmas money. now im going to try and record from the direct outs of the omni with the settings the way i want. if it doesnt record the verb, im gonna shoot myself!!!
any thoughts on this?? LOL!!!

What am I missing here? Did you think that the reverb signal on playback (monitoring) would carry into the MP3?

I thought earlier you were saying that you applied reverb to tracks that were being recorded, saved and converted to MP3 but then the verb wasn't present during playback.

correction from earlier post-
"then tried converting to MP3. i got the MP3, but no reverb. "

i recorded all tracks dry. then, after all was completed, i added reverb during playback. no record button was pushed, so no reverb was recorded. i guess since the converting to MP3 isnt happeneing in a "real-time-listen-as-you-convert" way, it isnt going to record any effect that is added after the recording process is complete.
answered my own question in that sentence, didnt I?????

anyhow, problem solved.....

I purchased the "HHB Burn-IT CDR-830" on sale for $499.00 at sam ash with gift certificates and christmas $$ i got. hooked it up to the mixer outputs of the omni breakout box and hit record and play on the HHB.
WALLLLAAAAA!!!! song complete!!!!! just the way i wanted it.
anybody need any cd's made???? LOL!!!!!!

thank you everyone for your helps and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
