im trying to record a drum kit with my omni studio. When recording four tracks at once i can control the input volume on two inputs but cant seem to control the volume on input 3 and four is there asolution to this im still new at this but if someone could help me thast would be great. my recording program is sonar 4

The OMNI only has two mic inputs. You can use the Line ins with mic preamps in front of them to get the line level signal you need, then you could record all four tracks simultaneously.

Yeh beats me why they sell a 4 input card with only 2 preamps

There are plenty of soundcards with 4 or 8 line inputs and no preamps. This gives you a computer interface that you can use with a mixer, and use your computer like a multitrack tape recorder. Mic preamps up the ante so that anyone who isn't that serious about recording and isn't likely to pop for a $1000+ mixer but wants to record with a mic can do so with minimal gear. But of course adding mic preamps increases the cost and it's likely there has to be a compromise to fit preamp circuitry in the same box as the converters. The OMNI i/o is really an add-on to the Delta 66 card that allows people that don't have mixers to be able to record with mics, but it's meant to be small and low-cost, so there's only two preamps and one headphone out.

Yeh sure it's obviously a compromise and they want to keep the price down, but the omni is marketed as the perfert companion for the delta 44 or 66, yet it only does 1/2 the job.

When I bought my 44, I would have liked to get the whole omni package but it's useless to me in that configuration so I ended up getting a mixer instead.

I still believe there's room in the market for an omni unit with another couple of preamps
