Old tube amp tech question....

FWIW, I have one of those amps, and use it quite frequently in my studio, as well as for some jamming. Irrespective of the position of the ground switch, I've never been shocked by it.

Yet...

I think I'll go do some testing. Maybe go ahead and mod it Let' see, where did I put that box of old computer power cords?
 
and in the future i would seriously doubt this techs data with respect to amps...

Th OP is long gone. We gave him good advice along with a little good-natured ribbing. He took offense, vented a bit of spleen, and left the building.

And really, the kidding was quite mild in this thread.
I really don't understand why he got upset.
It's not like we unleashed the gerg on him!
 
Whoa, whoa.....whoa. I didn't even get upset really. I just stated that the death jokes, and all that were unnecessary. I had talked to my tech about the list of things I needed done and one of them was the ground issue on that amp. We talked about running the power cable out of the ground switch if need be so no holes would need to be drilled. I said that was a thing that was farther down on the list.....then as I am leaving he threw out the grounded 1/4" cable thing. I said, "would that even work?" and he said, "yes."

I never had intended upon doing it, I don't think he wants me dead, this guy has a wealth of knowledge and has offered to teach me how to mods and maintenence for free....I do realize that everyone is capable of being a complete moron in one instance and a genius in the next.

I figured there was a WHOLE lot of cats just as smart of smarter than this guy that look at the pages of this forum and through it out there to find the answer...

I was never mad, only disappointed that even the simplest of questions could not be answered with out the usual fodder.

I am tough as nails and have referrals to prove it....:cool:

In your defense, what he told you would work, though at best it's a temporary measure and not what I would recommend as a permanent solution. I still maintain that it's not something that would make any difference in the value of the amp, and it would be much safer.

But anyway, last night on stage in a club, our other guitarist was getting shocked from the mic. He was playing through my old Super that has a grounded plug (a mod that I did without having to drill any holes), so I assume the PA (single component) was ground lifted and whenever he touched the mic, the system was grounding itself through him. I ran a 1/4" cable between the unused channel of the amp to an unused channel on the board - problem solved. BTW, it wasn't necessary to clip the connectors or the wires to it; we just turned everything down on the channels involved.

I have to admit that the incident made me think of you. :D
 
SWeet! Yeah, it was never really a viable option for solving the problem, just wondered if it would really even work. Glad it worked for your singers sake.....I used to sing in a band and played rythm with a Fender Deluxe Reverb, got some pretty nasty shocks while playing.....it does suck.
