I'll jump in on that soft synth thing.

Everyone is different and has their own preferences.

For me, soft synths are not inspirational. I also find that I always get distracted when using them, too many technical things getting the way all the time. So I much prefer hardware synths, although I certianly do have and use software synths from time to time.

But for just sitting and playing and working out music, I use hardware.

Soft Synth = great for programming, sad for playing, touch of the pitch or mod wheel and I start to "love" how sound "remains" full of substance and integrity, some aliassing on the way? , perhaps "some" ;)

Also when one observes that prices for some soft synth software are truly starting to "conpensate" for less and less hardware absence it is clear to see most of them are simply overpriced.

Trends come and go, evolving takes maturity of those who repeat modus operandi what most choose and follow, after coherence of substance takes place again, emptiness of creative hands will always be better fulfilled with touch of the real hardware, sound of substance.

Soft comes handy and it is useful as flexible scratch-pad, but for now I just can't record results with smile on my face. But that is just me, far from suggesting others might feel differently ;)
