we don't need rest!!
you know...I've got a bunch of old EV mics, that actually don't seem too bad for certain items. I have used some omni(!) PL5's for instance as tom mics on drums, and if REALLY closed mic'd sound ok....and the off axis bleed I would imagine isn't so colored being an omni. $35 on Ebay I see them nowadays, every now and then. Also some PL91's (their shure 58 clone, I guess), and they seem ok for dynamic mic uses too. Anyone else ever used these mics?

I have an old ev here that is a pl and the number is mostly scratched off,but I think it was a 3.It doesnt sound that bad,but it doesn't get very loud,so I mostly use it for my drummers vocal mic on the gig......lol

Actually,I have used it to mic up a snare and got kind of an old "50's" sound out of it,the best way I can describe it anyway.Kind of an ugly tan colored old ball mic.

No help my friend. I have a couple of PL-80s taht are great live mics and do well in front of a guitar cab or even in a kick drum.

PL 80.....Last time i can remember using it was to mic a harmonica
But it sounded pretty good.

I love the PL-5. It's the same mic as the 635a, just a different dealer network sold them. Great for guitar amps when the player won't control the bass, gives a good early 70's Rolling Stones-type acoustic guitar sound, and can be great for some percussion.

The PL-20 is the same mic as an RE-20, but there don't seem to be great savings opting for the PL on the used market.
