Has anyone heard of an AKG 452 EB ?
These are listed as the condenser mics used to record Michael Hedge's
"Breakfast in the field".
I searched the akg web site, and didn't find any info.
The acoustic sound on this c.d is superb.
The recording dates to the early 80's, 81-82 I believe.

GREAT mics when they're up to specs. Hard to find them that way though. Most of the time they need to be serviced, repaired, or modded and sound pretty crappy until you have that done.

I had a pair of C451Es that I was going to have modded by Jim Williams at Audio Upgrades but ended-up selling them because I have other things worth spending my money on (as I have plenty of mics).

By the way AKG has a new C451B coming out that are fixed cardioid. Haven't heard it or heard anything from anyone, but it'll probably be worth at least looking into.

I'm assuming the 452 is similar [or a different model number, but basically same mic] to the 451. The 451's were, and are, great mics. Good for HH's, OV's, acoustic gtrs, shoot...pno's...,etc, etc....at least in my opinion. I think some of the mics like the MXL603's, and that style, used the 451 as an example to go by.
I'll be interested in the new ones that Rec Eng. mentioned and their price. Hopefully they'll give these current SD condensors a run for their money...pricewise, especially.

Thanks dudez, thats interesting info.
peace,

I will have a new C 451 B reissue here to audition as soon as they get over here from Vienna. I have a feeling that they will be really great sounding mics [as their forebearers certainly were]? Will report to all on this forum my initial findings as soon as I get my mitts on these new mics. :)
