Hi all,
I need some good condensers for drum overheads and some stereo room micing of full bands. Plan is to run the two mics into PreSonus MP20 straight to 2-track CD burner (Fostex CR300) for later dump to digital 16-track (Fostex D160).

Was looking at the Oktava's, but don't like the quality control issues I read about. The Studio Projects C4s have some great reviews. Also, have a line on some new Audio Technica 3035s for $270.

Which would you go for in my shoes? Thanks for any input.

i'd recommend the oktavas. i just recently bought a pair at GC (chinese ones) and to be quite honest, they work great. i've had no problems whatsoever with the build quality (they seem to be very well built) or sound quality for that matter. just my opinion though.

i own a matched pair of oktavas, can tell about the others but i like my oktavas.

if u worried about qc, buy them at the sound room. i got mine there and sercive is A++++

The Oktavas are a little bit colored, in my opinion, for remote stereo recording. They rock as overheads on blues, rock, or R&B. The C-4's are cleaner, and in some ways more versatile. They are very good as a remote stereo pair, good on acoustic guitar, and make good overheads for jazz, country, or pop. They are also good live acoustic guitar mics. The color of the Oktavas makes them a marginally viable vocal mic, although very prone to popping (2 pop filters helps). Don't sing into a C-4. It's not pretty. I've never used the AT mics, so I can't say much about them. I do own the C-4's and the Oktavas, and I use them both for different stuff.-Richie

i personally would go with the AT3035, you cant go wrong with that mic for the price. i'm personally about to buy the AT4040, the mic a step up. There's hardly any difference between those two mics, the better value is actually with the 3035.

I hated the 3035.
