Oktava Mk-219 vs. Mk-319

Yeah, I have a feeling it won't be too long before I send it in for mod. I do want to experiment with it for a while and get a good feel for the tone of it first, so I can really appreciate the improvements.

Great! You know I did the same thing.I even made some duplicatable recordings with the microphone and it sounded great, sent it out for modification got it back rerecorded the same stuff and *WOW* the things I was missing.
It was sure amazing to be able to A/B the microphone.

From what I've heard these are some of the closest mics out there in sound to the U47.

Stock?? Hardly. If you think you're buying a $1-200 mic and getting close to a U47, you're only fooling yourself. I have two MJ modded 219's that I love. They are both quite different sounding from each other, and REALLY different from the 319 that I heard. (Also modded by MJ) These are FET mics and I wouldn't really call thenm U47 killers. Great mics that I love, yes, U47's, not really. And stock, they are horrid. Boxy, phasey messes. Michael does miracles with them though.
