Hmmm - somehow, you missed my point Kylen.......

John's "buddy" at AudioMaster is offering "professional" mastering services.... the equipment list at that site boasts Event monitors as their main reference.... THAT is laughable and that's what I was commenting on.

Event monitors make fine nearfields for tracking/mixing, but they are definitely not of a calibre needed for use in a professional mastering house as primary monitors.

Well, that site looks pretty different this morning... The "Studio" page has changed drastically.

Thanks for letting me vent, everyone. I normally don't try to spread that kind of crap around, but I've been under a little stress lately. Frankly, I found it theraputic.
 
I think you were pretty justified in being angry...

At least he listened to your complaints and took the pictures down. :cool:

Anyway - glad things are working out Massive - nobody likes to have their hard work ripped without permission.
 
The way I see it is it's not so much that Massive's work was stolen (that we know of!), just web pics and web content. The larger problem here is an ongoing one and not easily solvable. You folks that are trying to make an honest dollar, performing an honest job are "in competition" with scammers. When people start getting burned by the scammers, they are less likely to try a second (and actual honest) option in a place like Massives. "Oh - I've seen that pic before and/or read that same content. Must be the same place - or another rip off joint. No way I'm sending my stuff to them"

That's where it seems like it could really end up hurting - with getting new business.
 
It is a question of copyright infringement... website content is copyrighted and can't be used by anyone without permission.
 
I agree, but I think kragbax has a valid point. Trust can be hard to come by on the internet.
 
sorry that this had to happen Massive. It sucks when people take credit for your stuff. however, my question is how do the copyright laws transfer over into different countries?? i noticed Massive is out of Illinois while this rip off artist is from the UK. How are these copyright laws upheld on the internet when you are dealing with two different countries and two different legal systems (however, I doubt the UK has any leniant policy on stealing copyrighted pictures...but still)??? This was also probably a big factor of why they choose Massive's pics; nice looking setup and he's located thousands of miles away...."no one will know! and it won't effect my business here in my town! yay for me!!" :cool:
 
another question...was that an old picture of yours they stole?? 'cause i looked at the two back to back and one of 'em seems either older or doctered up a little bit to make it look different. Also, what's funny, is they say that they monitor with Event TR8's right above the pic that clearly contains a pair of M-Audio BX8's.

I wasn't disagreeing with kragbax.... only the point about "not so much that Massive' work was stolen"....!
 
I know all about copyright infringement and the internet - I spend 8+ hours a day creating and maintaining websites for many State and Local government organizations, it pays for all the 'toys' I buy and dream about buying!

Using the pic(s) was copyright infringement, sure. Kinda goes without saying I'd think. Punishable by fines, etc? I doubt it as 1) the pics are already down and 2) none of any levied fines would make it to Massive - so you'd end up spending legal fees (recoverable?) chasing a dead horse. Now if the owner of the site didn't or refused to take the pics down, or claimed them as legit, there's a different story.

The larger issue was what I was infering, in that scammers hurt all legitimate businesses who are running their own operations. Local business most likely wouldn't be effected, nor of course would any repeat. But just try to convince a potential new client who's out of town/state, who's already been burned by a business like 'Audio Master', to send you their funds and material.

It's unfortunately a part of doing business on the internet these days - it's just way too easy to throw up a site and be anonymous. At least in the old days if a person wanted to rip you off they pretty much had to be able to look you in the eye :)

bennychico11 - Good call - That was an older shot from when I had the BX8's in the nearfield (for fades & crackles and such).

Actually, I just finished a little "remodeling" - I'll post photos at some point soon I'm sure... ;)

And yeah, I'm glad he/they took that stuff down right away. It's just hard to understand why, especially in the internet age, that they'd put it up in the first place. And then all that text...

I mean, I make no bones about it - As far as mastering ops go, mine is pretty humble. I rely much more on experience than my endless selection of black magic boxes :eek: :D

It makes me wonder what that place actually looks like through the lens...

I've heard your samples - they sound fine to me ! So it seems you have a good balance between tools and experience.

Speaking of samples - you don't 'spose the guy copped those too, arf !!! I didn't see them over there though...
 
Wow... I got a weird feeling in my gut just reading that...

However, I didn't see any samples on his site. Interesting point there also.
