I asked this before but in a different way. I won't ask again.... I promise! The question I have is this:

I have 6 basses. I only really dig 2 of them and those 2 really arent that great anyway, both are Ibanezes. I want to get a bass rig (for recording only) that will be versatile and of high quality. Something I can keep for a long time without having to add to it all the time. I love Geddy's Bass for a few reasons. 1. the sound he gets is gritty, deep and punchy. 2. The Geddy Jazz looks killer with the black inlays. 3. It's a Fender Jazz. 4. I'm obcessed with Rush. 5. It seems to be a high qualty bass.... not necessarily in that order!

The other part of it would be the Bass Pod Pro. I thought about the Bass Pod but I wanna mount it in a rack and the Pro has more options.

Would those two together be an "end all" great setup for recording?

Thanks,
RF

I dig Jazz basses too. They are the shit. I'm surprised Geddy didn't switch sooner.

Oh yeah he used to play a Rick, my other favorite.

Puts on fire suit

I have yet to play through a digital box that feels like a good tube amp. You might be better off running bass into a good mic pre to go direct. I run mine through my MKIII head with good results. If you need a shitload of different tones and your on a tight budget the POD might be a good choice though I think you could pick up a small. good sounding bass amp with a direct out for about the same $.

I have a Joe Meek VC1Q Pre that I use for bass and Vocs sometimes. I was looking for something kind of like a Bass Keyboard Module but one that would use the real bass! I do want a ton of tones and bass effects. I also have a Carvin Cyclops 600W combo that I use but I'm looking more the DI route. I was hoping that the Ged bass and the Pod Pro would give me "any" sound that I needed quickly by simply turning a couple of knobs. It seems like I'm taking the easy way out but my situation right now is I'm in a 500 SQFT condo and I need everything to be direct. I gave up the 1000 SQFTstudio so we could save for a house. Real Estate's so damn expensive out here! Anyway.... in a year or so, I'll have a house large enough to build a studio in and use mics and amps again. Would the SP VTB-1 be a good option? I mean better than the Meek? Of coarse I know it's a matter of opinion but is the VTB that good? The Meek was over $500, the VTB is $179 and the Pod Pro is $600.

Thoughts?
Thanks,
RF

I've used about five different mic preamps, ART Tube Channel, Mackie vlz, PreSonus MP20, JoeMeek VC3Q, direct boxes like the BSS AR133 and Countryman, and none of them compare to what the Bass POD does. The Bass POD is incredible. It's not the only option out there but I think it's the best.

Just pick up any issue of Bass Player magazine and see how many pros are using them. There is a reason.
