so now i know i cant use the mr-8 fostex to record on cooleditpro with my m1 condenser mic. What can i use to power the microphone so i can record on my computer with it. Preferably cheap, and anyone want a brandnew mr-8 fostex multitracker i have one for sell;)

If it were me, I would sell the Fostex and buy an audio interface like the Presonus Audiobox. Phantom power is supplied by the interface and the Analog/Digital (AD) conversion is going to be better.

Looking at ebay..........you can sell the Fostex for $75-$125, then buy a used Audiobox for $75-$125. It should be a pretty even trade.

yup i think i saw one for sale with Studio One Artist with it, thats some pretty nice software :)

Oh yeah. StudioOne looks sweet. I watched a video about it yesterday and caught myself drooling. :p

Watch out for that Dastrick! I was accused of just that for messing up my EV re-20. :D ..... one must always have their drool bucket handy at all times.

Is the problem that you don't have phantom power on the Fostex that you could solve by buying an outboard phantom power supply like this?

No, the problem is that the Fostex is not an interface and he can't use it to record directly to his computer. He needs a proper interface with phantom power.

Whoa - you're saying you can't use something that's not an interface as an interface?

That would explain it. :)
