OK, I've got a soundcard at the mo' it's a stinker - basic, smelly, rotting the inside of me PC. Seeing I have a wodge to spend what would visitors to the newbie board recommend a hopeless newbie like myself to buy for top qual home recording?

I'm running XP with 528MB RAM & 1GB Chip. I can't record anything at all decent the mo' and even trying to convert tapes into MP3s is besought with totally annoying probs - like I can't seem to control the input level so all MP3 recording is distorted to f**k. I've tried different software with the same prob. Sound Card is built in yo the Motherboard, I knew I'd have probs with it but now that I'm ready to add me own sounds and upload MP3s to the Internet I'm totally buggered.

Can anyone help...??

Bear in mind that if you do help I will bombard u with newbie questions for the next six months...

You might want to take a look at the Delta 44 or the Delta 66 soundcard (although you might run into some issues in terms of WDM drivers).

You will also want to look at an editor to help you in converting your tapes into MP3's or WAV. files. I would suggest Sound Forge 6.0

Delta 44 and 66

I dont think I'm gonna answer your Q about the card now... VERRRRYYY soon, the others will... I just want to ask you what will you do with the card. Some's suplied with multiple Input / output. Some's suplied with digital I/O & SPDIF. Some's handle Soundfont & internal synth. etc... Very vary.... ;)
And check this link.
Small gift for audio minded with Win XP.

Thanx spinster - but what is a WDM? I know, it's sad isn't it?

What am I going to do with my card? You ask.

1. Use it for recording top quality guitar, bass, vocals and samples
