Solar Power!!
Check this out - there are two mics on this piano placed about 8" above the hammers and 10" apart. One is a AT4050, the other is a SM58. One is panned left the other right. Both mics are flat, no EQ.

OK so which is which?? ;)

cheers
John

BTW I'll tell you after the weekend :)

uhm, was this to be a poll?

I don't have a soundcard in this computer, but I think it was the AT4050. Yeah, definitely the AT4058. Huh? Yeah, that's what I said; AT58. The 58, you know? Of COURSE the SM-58.

Geez. Clean out your ears...

Dont tell until Sunday...... I have to take the mp3 with me to hear it in a better enviorment and I'm gone for the weekend.

If I get it right what do I get?

Hows about if I'm right You send me a nice Cd of your work. If I'm wrong I send you. O.k ?

You're on! Shialat ... hey you hang in there in Tel Aviv .. from what I hear it's getting hairy there and the US speaches aren't helping :)

John

Finaly a man that understands the world like it is.

But I vowed to myself no politics here.

I'm sure that what I really think is the sm-58 will be wrong becuase you wouldn't post the question other wise but I'm going to go with what I feel is the real answer...... or should I ?!?!?.........
Shit..... now I'm not going to get any sleep until Sunday

On a side note......
Your Avatar has yet to be beaten.

Good one...

...they're both pretty good! Much closer than I would have "thunk" off-hand. I had to listen a few times to catch some of either mics characteristics... the one on the right had slightly more mid-range honk and graininess, while on the left the upper-mids and high-freqs were smoother and rounder... and the clip cut-off just as a few telling bass notes would seem to have occurred......

So I'd say the 4050 on the left, the 58 on the right...

Bruce

The SM58 is the left one....has the hyped high-end.

John - I haven't read any of the responses to your original post yet, so this is after listening to the clip twenty times. I like the left channel better - it sounds more present to me, like the mic's more sensitive, so I reckon that's the 4050, but damn! I'd've expected more difference in the sound considering the difference in price.

Hey, wait a minute! This is a trick, right? Like the bent stick in the water... This only works when you put the 58 and the 4050 on a PIANO, right? The rest of the time, the 4050 sounds good, and the Shure sounds like you threw felt over the sound, right? Right?

I'll have to go with AT on the left, the Shure on the right.

Man, I had to drag out the Q-tips for this one.

well... this is a quite uneducated guess but ill go with reasons. The left side defintely i guess you would say has more high end but that could be because of mic placement. If you solo the channels the right actually sounds nicer. I mean i would raher listen to a jazzy piece that sounded smoother like the right side. the left is more defined so i sat thats the 4050, and the right channel is the SM58.

Your mileage may vary.

dobe, John might be playing a trick on us!
They could be Radio Whack mics hyped to the fullest!!!
But I'll stick with my so-called ears and pc speakers!

AT on the left, Shure on the right........I think......

hmmm?

40/50 on the left..58 on the right...I own both mics in question and this is correct!:D But I was wrong this one time back in 63!

Yeah, I agree with Blue Bear about the low mid 'honk' on the right channel. My guess is

AT left
SM58 Right
