so I was attempting to try out my new monitors last night. I got a mixer and i plugged a rca cables into the line in to the computer sound card....then 1/4 cables to the monitors from the main out from the mixer.

I didnt get any sound....I dont understand?? Any help?

What kind of mixer? What kind of monitors? What was the source?

I'm confused too, but maybe I get it - if you want to play from your computer, through the mixer (using it as volume control), to the monitors, you should be going from the line out on the computer to an input on the mixer.
