OK, I'm lame (remix)

Very nice playing and good clean recording. I read some other replies and I didnt notice the boominess on headphones-actually it sounded a bit twangy to me-maybe thats because it has such a direct sound to it...who knows...I noticed breath noises a few times-I guess a mans gotta breathe huh? Did your maximzing-make the breaths louder? I've got some of those kinds of noises on some of my stuff -tried to get rid of em but no dice....anyway im babblin-really fine guitar playin-sounds like your dad has good strong hands-sounded in command of that geetar--nice stuff.

My dad has diabetes now so he doesn't drink and the guy has really mellowed out in the last decade or so.

Sometimes the shit you like the least you keep the longest.
 
Strat, I really don't think the maximizer altered the breathing sounds at all and I know it sounds weird but I kind of like that...sentimental or something.
Erichenryus I like the crispieness of it but it may be a bit harsh on other systems so thanks for that. I wonder if a bit of de-essing would help.

I'll post an update tonight and leave a note here in case anyone wants the final mix.

I listened to this last night. Very nice performance, of course. Good mix, too. Not much to mix, but it was well balanced and an easy listen. Your Paws could give poor ol' (deceased) Michael Hedges a run for his guitar strings.

It is quite evident that you are quite proud of your Dad, as I am with mine. Hopefully it will always be that way for you.

Consider yourself fortunate to have such a talanted father to lead the way for you musically. I'd follow his lead for sure.

I'm not sure which version I actually like best...cause I like reverb so much and am a sucker for synth strings too. They are both good. This is something I'd really enjoy mixing and farting around with too.

It has a nice deep, thick tone to it. Very nice, young man of the islands. (I couldn't spell Hawaiian:rolleyes: )

hey...do you guys wear those neat red Magnum P.I> shirts? I like those! I guess they are everywhere...eh?

....I've got a nice peaceful, pleasant picture of your clan in my mind, for some reason.. maybe that nudie shot on the beach, awhile back! I'll bet your mom has/had long curly blond hair that went waaay past the shoulders.

There really isn't much to mix, My re-mix was an un-mix.
I listen to it all the time so I like to pass it around.

The other song "seafarin man" is a well written and performed song as well which sounds whimpy so I'll just say it rocks.
I hope to be half the musician my dad is by his age.

Well I can already roast him on the drums....yeah!:p
 
Very nice picking. I love Drop D acoustic stuff. Sweet song and mix. It didnt sound maximised to me. I have one and rarely use it.
You dad can play some clean mean guitar.

OK, I updated the link. The new mix should take care of all the issues besides the breathing (which would be near impossible?).
I didn't use the ultramaximizer, but try to guess my mastering processor on this one. Hopefully I didn't overdo it.

ok i listened again ..but only cause i liked it the first time....and i never hear the minuscule changes that people make so suffice it to say ......SOUNDS GREAT ...i ..uh .love this new way you mastered it ....

That's some great stuff. Your Dad must sing too because I caught him breathing in the proper places for the phrasing of the guitar part :p :D. I actually thought that was pretty cool. :D
 
The lows at the beginning sound better....(as in, less of them). And the highs don't pierce as much in the latter half. Whatever you did...great job.

I remember when you posted this Jake,new mastering job sounds much better here.
Sounds like he's in the room,very sweet and clean acoustic tones.

Beatifull tune and playing. I like the tone of those acoustics a lot. I have a trick for getting rid of the breathing. Id love to do it to your track. Want to send me the .wav file? Id be honored to help ya.

Like I stated earlier Justin, I'm not really interested in eliminating the breathing from this track for sentimental reasons. I guess I could just paste a small similar sounding section over the breath.

I would however be interested to hear your technique for doing this so I can practice it on this song. Please give a short outline of the steps involved, I'm VERY interested.
