Simple AKAI LPD8. I just need to program simple drum track for a friend Australia. I can use the re-programmed setting to do simple kick and snare. But when it comes to adding, or actually my question, programming this LPD8 to do specific HH track to the basic kick snare track, I cannot get the thing to work. It does not seem to make any changes to the 4 presets, while Cubase is open. I had a bit of luck by changing the parameters in LPD8, when Cubase is closed, but then the changes I made, do not seem to correspond with the Addictive Drums program, that I assigned the MIDI outputs for. I picked the fooking notes that AD specified, yet the fookin pads do not trigger the right shiz! I am friggen frustrated! It don't happen often, but I have had it to here with this now.....

If anyone wishes to stop my hair from going gray, sooner than it should, I would gladly send you some beers or something. Seriously, I would actually pay for beers to be sent to you. Not kidding! I will pay for direct answers, as to how to get this shiz to work directly with Addictive Drums.

I am collaborating with another artist. I have no clue as to what he wants me to play, as we cannot rehearse across oceans. I use the basic programmed drum tracks, as a click track, for when I record the live ones. Supposed to save time right? Well, that is why I bought the controller. Problem is, that just a kick and snare, do not really get the point across, and I would like to program the 'obviously smarter than me' MIDI controller, to have a preset, where I could lay down a track off HH embellishments, and maybe a crash here and there. I cant seem to get any consistency out of the programming of this thing, likely because I am a complete idiot when it comes to this particular MIDI controller, and the way it works with inputs.

Seriously, beers for insight. I'm totally in need of a friggen diaper with this right now, and need a changing. Wah!!

First of all, calm down. This is a simple thing and I'm here to help you thru it!

Midi triggers drum sounds by sending out note numbers. The Kick is usually found at midi note 36 and the snare is usually found at note 38.

There are disagreements among manufactures about what the location of, for example, C3 is in relation to the other notes. This seems like an odd thing to mention, but it can be significant when you're trying to assign note numbers according to the manual for a specific device or sofware package. My advice would be to transpose the HH notes up one octave. Do this with the Akai editor open and follow the instructions to save the setup. Then go into Cubase and see if it works. If it doesn't work try transposing them down and save again. You're probably already sending on the correct channel if the kick and snare work right out of the box and it's just a matter of getting the right note numbers for the HH. Midi channel 10 is the traditional drum channel, but if that doesn't work try setting your midi out channel to 1 and see if that works.

Post again and let me know how you do - I've got some other things for you to try if you're unsucessful...

Thanks man! I did get it working for the most part. I found that some of the notes listed in the drum editor in cubase (for Addictive Drums), somehow do not translate from the AKAI. I was expecting the notes to directly correlate, but for some reason, they just don't. I have found a way to work around it however, so back to getting things done. :)

Update:

After I finally got it to kinda work, I broke the LPD8 by hitting the pads to hard. Just bought a AKAI MPD18, and it seems to work as it should (almost). Still some notes do not play as they seemingly should, but it is working for me. Much more pads, so I can get more done at a time with one bank.
