Ok I Narrowed It Down....help!

Here's the mic's Ive narrowed it down to....

Rode NT1000
AT 4040
MXL V69 Mogami Edition
Shure KSM27
SP C1

They're all $300.00 or under
Which is the best bang for the buck?
I was thinking of going with the MXL

I have also decided to order an M-Audio 1010LT soundcard, because it seems to suit most of my needs.
 
in that list, the v69.....

in that range also consider the Marshall MXLv77 and the Studio Projects C3......
 
The only way you can really narrow it down is to audition the mic's for yourself. I believe Chessrock is now offering a mic auditioning service at his recording studio.

This week I'm a/bing my C3 with a new v69me. I'll share my opinion in a couple of days.

I cannot comment on most of them, but I am very happy with my SP C3. I got it through scott at advanceddesignky.com for under $300 (now, that is a deal.) I think that the C3 will give you more patterns and the pad option which (I believe) is missing from the C1.

That is correct... there is no Pad/Roll-off switch on the SP C1, however it's not missing because the C1 never came with that switch in the first place. :)

Oops, I stand corrected... it's been so long sense I've used my SP C1... anyway, I just went and took a look and you right, it does have a Pad/Roll-off switch right below the grill, Sorry about that. But it doesn't have a Pad AND a Roll-off switch... it's just one switch which can only be set to off or either the Pad or Roll-off position... oh, and I don't believe the early SP C1's had this switch at all... so if your buying a used C1 you may want to watch for that.

Get at least two mics:

The V69 Mogami Edition is a great old-school-sounding, very colored tube mic.
The C1 will give you pop "sheen".

You still should consider a Studio Projects B1 for a more neutral sound.
Red5 Audio RV8 is also an excellent neutral mic, but with a touch of "sheen".

Once you start getting into the diffs between quality Mics then only one pair of hears that can make a decision YOURS.

By all means listen to other opinions but they will all be prejudiced in one way or The other.

Me, I think a good producer could get good results with any of them.
