For those of you that havent seen it before, there's a floor plan for my new 1200 sq. ft. studio here:

I spent Sat. morning ripping out the last of the forms for the cable chases. Then I snapped chalk lines for the exterior walls, checked for "square", and started framing.

This is an "areial" view showing the cable chases being formed:

I was supposed to have a couple of buddies come over and help out, but it was such a beautiful weekend; can't blame them for not showing.
So this little guy is all the help I had! He's sitting on the adjacent 12'x24' patio.
I have another little worker, a couple of years younger, but he said there was no way he was working for studio time!

MikeA - No, the audio cables will run thru the cable chases to wall plates in each room.

I looked at the floor plan, I hadn't thought about the cable chases, where'd you get that idea, I like that one.

I really enjoyed the story about signing your own plans, that was very funny. I didn't think it was a conflict of interest. Or did you pay yourself off, under the table. hmmm... Now I am wondering, Don't worry I won't tell.

Good luck on the framing, mine went quick 2 days, ok, ok its only a converted garage, but its like BOOM the walls are up and then everything crawls from there.

Thanks man. There's such a long path ahead.
I guess I know where my next 16 or so weekends will be spent.
I'm ordering the roof trusses today; delivery in about 2 weeks.
I plan to have all the exterior walls framed and tilted up by then, so I can move right into the roofing.
I'm anxious to just have the exterior weathered in.

OK, I see now Michael. The bottom stick of the "Y" feeds to a plate in the main studio, and the left leg feeds into the vocal room with the little drop off of it feeding into the drum room. Looks real good!

You got it!
The other leg of the "Y" feeds electrical power to the console, and audio to the other 5.1 surround sound soffit mounted speaker.

Superb Michael, great inspiration seeing your project progress. I've been looking around for a similar size space to yours. Mine will be a rental, and space is cheaper than when I last looked so it's looking good.

Transputer - I looked into that too. I ran numbers in a business plan ad-nausem. But the cheapest places here were going for $18 per foot per year.
That worked out to an annual operating cost, for the building alone, of nearly $22,000. At that rate, in 3 years I could own the space, but I wouldn't.
That's why I decided to build.

Don - HaHa, I wish! 'Bout all you've got left on your place is "paint 'n polish" right?

I'm in the UK so maybe something has to offset the rain and Pop Idol supporting music biz ! I haven't got anywhere near sorting this yet but I can get a 800 sq foot unit for £600 (that's for rental and business rates only) a month, bit smaller than your 1200 sq foot but it's 18' high so might be a goer. I'll be doing all the construction, infact that's what I'm looking at now costing different spec control rooms. Ideally I wanna do a Left Bank size control room (cheers John for sharing that with us), or even Joe Egan but the cost as ever is at the forefront and I will need more than 800 sq foot I can dream
