I need equip, since mine has been stolen...I had $1,000, but recently got a little more.

I need...

1. Soundcard (w/ pre's preffered)
2. Mic
3. Pre (if you didnt list one that's built into the soundcard.)

What's the best I can possibly get for rap and r&b male vocals for under $1,200?

Delta card, you could get something as small as the 410 (2 analog ins, 8 analog outs, sp/dif in/out) for 150. I love it. (Ialso have a delta 1010 lt for 279)

M-audio dmp3 2-channel pre for 200

Studio Projects C-1 for vox (200)

and youll have about 500 left for other goodies like nice cabling.

Its a very clean signal path, no fun analog processing to make it sound really smooth and less........ digital, so add a RNC for 175. That would sound great.

Or go for a M-Audio duo and you have the soundcard and mic pre in a single USB unit for about a hundred less. Use it to get a tube mic.

RNP - 475
RNC - 175
Delta Audiophile soundcard - 140

that would give 410 for mics:

Id get a Shure sm57, a Marshall MXLv67G, a Marshall MXLv93M, and a Studio Projects B1

UNLESS, you will only be working with one vocalist in which case Id get all the other stuff first and then audition a bunch of mics using the above equip until you find the one mic that works for that voice.......

Comment: You could use the same type of mic's that you'd use for punk, gospel, contry, metal, and etc as you would for rap, R&B and etc.
