Oh My God! Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well here's the deal, I'm using a 300mhz beige g3/512 mb ram/OS 8.6. I had installed a 20 GB 7200 rpm maxtor ATA/IDE HD. The 20GB HD used to be non-partitioned, but a few months ago I had made 4 smaller partitions on this drive. I partitioned the drive to have a 2GB for system folder and some apps, a 2 GB for music apps, a 5GB, and a 10 GB. It seemed when I did this partition, strange little things started-like sometimes the startup system (folder/HD) wouldn't be recognized-you know the floppy disk on screen with the ? mark in the middle. I could do restarts, and still the same thing-even a weird little screach sound would happen, sounded like a mix between screaching breaks & breaking glass. If I ever heard that sound at the start of a day, I automatically knew the HD had failed to start. I would literally have to uplug the mac power cord, replug the power, start the machine and then the partitioned drives would show up.

Now here's the scary F'*&%@!?in part; The system has just crashed-no partitioned HD's to be found period, no matter what I do. I can boot (holding down c) from norton utilities & Mac OS 8.5 CD-roms, and neither see/recognize the partitioned ATA/IDE HD. In other words the HD isn't there period! Norton volume recover, disk doctor, etc. will not work because the HD isn't showing up. I can run the Mac Utility-Disk Setup, and setup does see that there is an ATA device there, and the setup app says the ATA isn't initialized
The bad part about this is, to reinitialize erases all info on the HD, and I have authorization keys installed on this drive (i.e. Pro Tools, D-fx, Cubase, SFX Machine, Auto-Tune, etc. etc.), plus I've got sessions on one of these partitions. I can't afford to loose any of those keys.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!! BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody got the answer to this-get's an atta boy! How can I get this HD back without eraseing the disk which contains the keys?
EL TON-O-MUCHO THANKO
