Often overlooked small diaphragm condensor (with matched pair option)

I see a lot of people asking about mics around here, and not using the search functions. And i think these mics are almost never mentioned. I have a matched pair of Crown CM700 and i just got finished using them on my first recording project. Better then just asking and getting responses you can listen to what they sound like. compared to what ive heard with AKG C1000s and NT1s, they leave those two in the dust. and only cost a fraction more.
 
Amen Kristian. I own a matched pair as well and they have been exceptional mics. I have compared them to the MC012 with the standard capsule and found the crowns to be slightly smoother in the lower mids...ie miking an old Martin dreadnought, a guitar that always gives me fits due to it's lower mid boominess. My Crowns move from drum overhead to guitar and horn mics to vocal ensemble...my comfort zone with these mics is pretty wide. Bet you have pretty much the same feeling.
 
Do you guys feel the overall superiority is due to this particular model of Crown mike or perhaps due instead to the better transient response of the small diaphragm mikes compared to the big diaphragms you mentioned?
I ask because I have used modest small-diaphragm electret condensors successfully for years.

i think its because they are nice mics. i dont have a large diaphragm but Ive used an NT1 once at a friends house for drums, didnt sound as good. C1000s are small diaphragms, they just sound like tin cans to me compared to the crowns.
 
I have used Crown PZM mikes and of course the legendary DC300A power amps.Good quality from good folks.
