Trailing Behind Again
I was screwing around with my guitar this afternoon, and started playing this AC/DC type riff that turned into an AC/DC type song. Next thing you know, 30 minutes go by and I've recorded 8 tracks.

It's just a throwaway, so I am not really looking for mix critiques. I was just having a blast recording this and wanted to share, with a reminder that this is why we do this, to have fun.

"The Gang's All Here"

BTW, just a couple notes: I broke every rule imaginable just to see the results. I DI'd the lead (I'm no Angus, but it fit), recorded the vocal to a single track, and pretty much just threw compression on everything.

This is my real voice. Again, I'm not Bon Scott, but I wanted to see if I could do this.

It's just a throwaway, so if you don't like it, it isn't going to hurt my feelings. I just thought that it was about time I recorded something and put it up.

One last thing, here are the lyrics, since I recorded it so fast, I didn't always sing it clear:
(They are not Grammy material, but there you go)

I like my women tough
But don't like mean
Don't like my music dirty,
Just a little unclean
I like throwing a party
That will last till dawn
I like a pretty woman
Who can turn me on

I like them slutty, but don't like you
But when it comes to nothing, guess you'll do

I like my coffee hot
And my whiskey sour
Drinkin' and tokin' in bars
Burns the hours
Turnin' some coin playin'
In a Rock'Roll band
There's plenty of me to share
But I'm just one man

Turn me into a monster, just add beer
Might as well make it a party, 'cause the gang's all here

Uh, scary? How?

i dont know... scary... like it was maybe sung by aliens visiting earth... it sounded like there was some kind of vocal effect. i dont know. maybe scary wasnt the right word... more along the lines of interesting... the guitar playing was great... i like the lick that starts just as the song starts to fade... ya left me hanging, i wanted to hear the end of it...

thanks. My guitar playing is sufficient but not great. I started the fade about the time I ran out of ideas and reached the end of my talent!

I was going for a pre-Brian Johnson AC/DC sound, paying homage to Bon Scott but not trying to do an actual AC/DC song. Like I said, it's a throwaway, and just having fun....

(You never said anything about the vocal. If you listen to my other songs, you'll be able to tell I don't do this all the time..)

Nevermind, you did mention the vocal. It's not an effect, I DI'd my mic into my MR-8, and only sang one track. That's my voice!

the vocals werent bad... just not what i was expecting... i guess i should have known what i was getting into when it said "ode to AC/DC"!!!! its a good tune though.

oh and good luck with the 100 page thread... last time i checked it was at 92, but that was a couple of hours ago... can i put in a request for more of the pics of chics? hell yes... its a great thread!!!

Yeah, it's a little more than that now. But we are gunning at full speed. I kinda like the song, but my "never-been-exposed-to-AC/DC" wife hated it!

Like she knows......

By way of a disclaimer before I begin....

Phew! It's a long road from folk'n'roll to AC/DC! This is like the antithesis of my kinda music.

I've never heard Bon Scott and I don't know who he was but did he really squeak like that? This sounds like the pitch was raised artificially... you know, the old chipmunk preset...

but don't listen to me... I'm just pissed that your throwaway mix kicks the pants off any of mine... if we all wrote the same kind of music the world would be a pretty boring place... so more power to your mouse-finger Rokket!

Hey, thanks for the listen. There is no processing on the voice, I promise! I didn't have to. When I was younger and stationed in the Philippines, I used to sing with the bands in this big club called Sierra. I did all the Gun's-n-Roses, AC/DC and Judas Priest songs for them... I used to be able to hit all those notes, but old age and abuse has taken that away from me...
Now I just do bubblegum stuff, so this was a departure and a throwaway.

I'm sorry that you feel your mixes aren't as good as mine. I am a long way from being proficient at it, but I work at it constantly... It takes time to learn how to do it well...

As far as Bon Scott, he was a legend. If you get a chance, listen to older AC/DC. Especially the song "Highway To Hell"... His voice was one in a million.

You know what? I may do a remake of "Highway To Hell" just for the fun of it.....

But I won't post it.... ;)

OK, I've had my fun. "The Gang's All Here" is coming down later tonight. So you have about 8 hours from now to give it a listen and dispell your lunch! :D

After that, it's back to business....

I'll be singing Highway to Hell at the Jamfest this year along with several other AC/DC tunes. :D I love that song. my band does a mini AC/DC set of 6 songs. I sing them all. The crowds love it.

Can you do an mp3 and let me hear your voice?
