Odd problem, please help!

Now this is not a big problem cause I can work around it but it is an annoyance.
I work with the following:
Soundblaster AWE64 gold soundcard and Acid 2.0 as the sequencer. I will soon get a better soundcard but im sticking to acid because I like the ease of use and so on.
Now, the problem:
When I record the first time since I played something back, It comes out noisy, like its 8-bit sound. There are no settings that tells it to do so, its often set to record 16-bit 44.100hz. If I record again directly without pressing play inbetween the playback sound 8-bit´ish but the recording sounds fine. The practical result of this is that I always start and cancel a recording once before I do a take thats useable, and the playback sounds crap when recording witch can distract some performers. Its a bit frustrating to explain this to every new person who come to my studio...

What is doing this and can I do something about it?

nothing

its just a fact of life with the awe64.
its not a true full duplex sound card.

suggest you get a new sound card.
