Hi Ray

I'm here in London.

That postcode sounds fake. So I typed it into an online Multimap (that works all over Europe) -- and the answer is..."Postcode not recognised".

The street name exists.

So I reckon something's up, and I doubt it'd be your bank balance :)

ah, yes, but most people here in London can come up with better English than that email -- especially, when it is for professional purposes. And they usually know their postcode better than their name :)

Coventry is a city in the midlands, it's over 100 miles away from London.

The address is totally nonsensical.

Whatever you do, be careful Ray...Don't give out any info. If they are real, they will find a way to contact you....but sounds like the guys from over there have found some flaws already.

I did a search and came up with this...

Roots Records
02476 711935 (phone) 02476 711191 (fax) rootsrecs@btclick.com 250, Earlsdon Avenue North, Coventry CV5 6AX

So the 'CV5 6' bit is ok. However you now have their phone number. Might aswell give 'em a call.

Edit: Further searching indicates that they are a mail order record shop. Not a record company.

I got the same email the other day, about 2 days ago....So, I sent him a reply, asking if it was the Blues music that I do he liked or the Heavy Band music, and he replied that he wanted both....

I don't understand how this could possibly be a scam, well not at this point, I suppose I havn't taken it far enough to unravel the inner workings of a scam...so who knows...

the one thing that makes me leary is the fact that the english and spelling are poor....Which makes me not take it seriously...

the first email I got was word for word the same as you got...I would think that if one was to send out multiple emails the grammer would be correct.

defintly call that number! i wanna know the answer now :D

Im still trying to work out what the scam is (hey Rayc check your PM's) i have loads of Contacts from Coventry, im actually not too long back from there visiting, so im going to get them to investigate that place. I dont recall That Roots Record Shop there either so im thinking there is definetly something shifty going on here, maybe they are going to ask for Money to cover the expences or something, or maybe try and steal your music...no idea, all i know is that its definetly a fake and i will have them investigated right away.

Ok been looking into it, Multiple buisnesses come up on that address which leads me to think that its in a Buisness park or something. Coventry Train station sits right beside a Shopping Mall down by Earlsdon avenue north, so im thinking this is a buisness address of someone. Theres also alot of buiness parks around there. I have come across Roots records and also an event management company at that address. Theres loads of them. This is definetly the Address of the Building but not of the buisness, also the why have London on there? I think you should definetly contact them, i would like to see what the scam is, just make it like you are really interested and maybe even a bit gullible.

Why say they are from london then? The address is Coventry. Its a Very Very dodgy affair indeed, theres loads of places on that address anyway

I have a feeling this is only the first step (if it is a scam). They stroke an independant artist's ego by getting them excited over the fact that someone might want to buy 60 CD's. Then they find a way to get YOU to send THEM a "fee" first, to sign up or something. Either that, or they just scam you on your CD's and use them as promo. For example, they use your CD as a giveaway to sell bigger name CD's. I'm just talking out of my ass here and guessing, but I have a feeling it's something like that.

Haven't received this email but have received the one asking if we want to be in a Battle of the Bands somewhere in the USA. That was quite a while ago.
It would be interesting to follow up and see how legitimate this is. Let us know any further details if you pursue this......

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the great response - whilst I was sleeping down under too. The grammar is a little odd - from the exemplary "..an wharehouse..." to the poor "...I will like to know...".
Terry did some research & as noted by many there are several companies at the address such as:
Folksound Music
Roots Records
Accolade Music.....it goes on,
I might play along for a bit to see how far this thing goes before the sting.
Don't worry, I wasn't tempted as our stuff isn't ready to be a "product" as there's still one old & three new songs to work on, (warning more mix help needed soon), & all the stuff needs mastering either by a professional or at least someone not me.
Thanks for the responses & I'll keep you informed.
Thanks again.
