buy cheap--buy twice

don't even think about it. I have one, and wish I had just ponied up for a C1 earlier.

P.S. Read the fine print... it's $150... only if you buy two...

 bunch of scam artists...

it's a matter of taste

I have a 319, it's a great sounding mic if you don't like bright mics. It has a fat midrange, and nice lows, It's a great mic for a singer with a thick loud voice, but it does great on female vocals as well.

The one I have has been dropped so hard that the capsule broke away from the circuit board. I glued the capsule, re-soldered the contacts and the mic sounds as good as new. Just to give you an idea of how robust it is. The C1 has a different personality, like I said it's a matter of taste. By the way, if you go into Guitar Center and tell them that you want the mic for $150 or you walk, they will probably do it.

If you do a search on the topic you will find a lot of people talk about poor quality control, personally, every one I know that has one loves it, and they didn't get a dud, but I suppose it happens.

good luck, enjoy which ever mic you get

The 319 is one of all time favorite vocal mics. It has darker, warm, round sound without the hyped high end taht so many budget mics suffer from. They're about $270 at the Sound Room which is the ONLY place I'd concider buying one.

Check it out.

Okay, this is the part why I have to ask why would you only buy it from the Sound Room (especially if it's considerably more expensive)?

Because of the extra scrutiny that their mics go through and Taylor Jonson stands behind the mics they sell.

Hi - I have a 319, and an 012, both of which are quite good, and are exceptional values. I just bought a Rode NTK tube mic the other day, which is an awesome mic. After using it a bit, and falling in love with it, I put the 319 back up, wondering if I would still like it. I was really supprised how it stood up to it's new compitition in the mic locker. I'm not saying it's as good as an NTK....If I had to choose one or the other it would be a no brainer. But I don't have to choose, and I'm definetly NOT letting go of my 319. It's blissfully free of that hyped sound that all the other low price condensers have. It has a supprisingly warm sound. The vocals on my soon to be released CD alternate mostly between U87 and 319 on different tracks, and to be honest, I have to think about which was recorded with which. I'm not saying it sounds just like a U87...it doesn't. But I am saying it stands up well in such company, which is a remarkable feat givin the huge difference in their prices.
I bought mine at Guitar center, but only after making them bring out a dozen to audition and choose from. Don't try that at lunchtime, in the evening, or during the weekend. They'll be to busy to accomodate you. Or, as mentioned, if you don't want to go to GC on a weekday morning to find a good one, then the Sound Room does the testing for you, for a price.
Cheers, RD

Also you might consider a 219, same innards at a lower price, and it's really ugly too. I like mine and use it when I want to warm things up from the C-1's or 012's.
