Hey everybody,

I was just wondering if this is a good deal. Guitar Center has an Octava MK319 with a Bellari pre for about 150. Is this worth buying?

Thanks,
B

I think it is a decent mic - but here is the trick - go into GC and have the salesman grab like 10-15 MK319's and then hook 'em up and listen to each one.

These things are handmade. You will find that some sound good, some sound like the mic is tightly packed in dung, and you may find one that sounds excellent.

There is not much consistancy in their manufacturing, it seems, but there are some diamonds in the rough.

Maybe "diamonds in the rough" is too complimentary. You can't polish a turd. You are not gonna get a Neumann quality mic when you find that one MK319 that wasn't built on a Friday afternoon - you are gonna find a good mic for that price, that is what I meant.

Oh, and those Bellari pre's are pretty noisy, but I keep one around in case of emergencies. It does an okay job in a pinch.

Not like you are getting two fine pieces of gear, but for the price, I think the mic is a great deal (providing you find one that sounds decent).

Yo mic! I'd buy the mic for $99 if it sounds OK. (I did, and I've found it useful and different from any of my other mics. The Bellari suffers from being "in between". It's too big for a sinker, and to small for an anchor! Don't waste the money on it.-Richie
