octava mk 319

just bought two 319s at guitar center for 100 dollars (for the pair, not each). good price, right? i thought so. they are having some deal this weekend.

anyway, the manual that came with it is in russian: can anyone tell me what the two switches on the back do? thanks!

The Oktava MK-319 is handmade in Russia. It is based on the popular MK219 capsule and electronics but with redesigned housing that provides a more open sound. It features a fixed-cardioid pattern, has a large gold-sputtered diaphragm, and a warm 'up front" sound that has made it a new favorite for use on vocals. -10dB switch and bass roll-off switches, 20Hz to 20kHz response.

HabitualG, that was a really good deal.

The switch on the left is the roll-off switch... OFF in the top postion and ON in the bottom postion.

The switch on the right is the pad.... OFF in the top postion and ON in the bottom postion.

I don't know.... but, at that price you could sell one on ebay and maybe or almost have one for free.

I just called my local GC, and they told me they could only do that deal for the mk 219.

Try to "burn" them in within the GC 30 Day return policy.
Oktava's have a reputation for poor quality control.
(they could both be "good" ones though)

On the other hand, I doubt that both mic's would be crummy..... and since their getting two mic's they'd know if one sucked or not right away.

Also, here's another thought about QC when it's not real consistent...... you could find a real jewel.

I've heard Oktava's QC is better now...... comments?

Well, I've heard the Oktava quality control horror stories, but never experienced them myself. I've got an MK319 and a pair of MC012's that work very well. All bought cheap at GC, and all well worth the price of admission.-Richie

Yeah the deal was this weekend only and you had to buy 2. They are both working fine after some tests on vocals and as drum overheads. I kinda like my SM58 on vocals but now I have 2 pretty different options at least.

The Pro Audio guy at GC was pretty clueless as to the deal, at first he said 219s but then he was like "let me check" and 10 minutes later he said it's the 319s. my receipt says "2 octava mk 319: $99.99" so i'm guessing he probably got the deal right.

they also have some cheap shit (price and quality wise)- 10 dollar flimsy ass guitar stands, 10 dollar might-as-well-hit-aluminum-foil china cymbals, and 10 dollar audio technica mics (retail was 40 he said) that the guy behind me in line says he swears on (for his karaoke business).

My friend got a 12 channel behringer mixer with 5 xlr inputs for 120 bucks too.... pretty good deal even though its behringer.

Ok, thanks for the tip. This is real. I just picked my 2 319's for $100 from the Oxford Valley GC. Comes with a plastic case/no shockmount. thanks again.

Ditto at GC at Metrocenter in Phoenix - I went there in person - the manager checked and said it was the 219 only.

I just drove an hour and bagged the two 319's at Oxford Valley, too. I also picked up a proscreen and some cables. Add in the K240 phones (a favorite from my radio days) and I spent $235, including Pa tax.

I got mine for $40.00 at musicians friend clearence center in KC.

I tried out a few and decided on the first one, dark mics suit me.
