I just bought a new soundcard -- Deltal Audiophile 2496--
Got a good deal on it while on vacation -- it was recommended as a step up from my present card. It had good comments about in the sondcard forum and other places.

will install it this weekend--
No comprendo the S/PDIF input -- what will it do for me?

The only thing I record is electric guitar -through a processor direct, bass same way, acoustic and vocals through Mic. --using a small mixer -- don't want to say what brand for fear of ridicule. (O.K. its a Behringer--good price!)

Still working my way up the learning curve.
(The curve can be sharp for the elderly)

The S/PDIF is a stereo digital port. For example, if you plugged your guitar into, say, a Johnson J-Station or POD Pro, you could go into the S/PDIF and remain in the digital domain.

But you need something that can interface to it, or else it's useless. I bought my Delta 66 instead of the Delta 44, in case I needed the S/PDIF someday, and it's going on 2 years and I have yet to get any gear that I can use with it.

O.K. since I'm already into the untra dumb questions-- how do I go into the card. -- just out from the RCA plug out of the mixer into the card inputs, then from the card out put back into the mixer?

You can have your instruments go into the board. Then have the board go to the sound card. The sound card to the monitors.

I, however, do this...

instruments>board>soundcard. Then,soundcard>board>monitors.

But I am using an 8 channel bi-directional TDIF cable. :(

Can't I have Instruments into mixer -- mixer into soundcard -- soundcard back into mixer then mixer out to the monitors?

All done with RCA cable and 1/4 jacks?

That 8 channel bi-digumttinal TIDDY cable confused me?
I don't think I have one or know what it is

you can go from soundcard back to 2 channels of the board...very common..........then from the board to the amp/monitors........

do as it you described in your second post.....

Yes. :D

O.K. now I'm satisfied -- but I still want to know about that 8 channel multi faceted Tiddy cable

TDIF = Tascam Digital Interface
bi-directional = two directions
8-channel = 8 channels
