nvidia onboard apu

i use an nvidia onboard apu who wants to make fun of me?

Seriously, the new audio drivers for it are ok.... the directx asio drivers are more reliable, but anyone else out there think it is not worth it for me to get a new sound card? Using a an xp 2100 with 512 ram running a 380fsb (overclocked on asus board)
 
All depends on the implementation. The APU doesn't mean much if the converters on top of it suck. My general purpose machine is a FIC AU11, which is an nforce board. no way I'd use it for audio as the output is terribly terribly noisy. I plug that into my E-mu on my audio machine and it shows up as -50 dbfs noise floor...

OTOH, other motherboards use different converters than my mboard does...

Remember, it's that whole boat floating thing...
 
well this board has dolby 5.1 outs, but like i said it is kinda buggy sometimes.... i guess i should have said, 'can i do this' but i have been so far and it's been going ok, just still in the demo quality range

BTW what kind of converters are you talking about?
 
typically generic-1 converters vs. generic-2 converters. :)

On my FIC AU11, I hear aliased tones around 15-18k thanks to a poorly implemented low-pass filter. A good quality LPF is essential to any DAC (or ADC for that matter). Other motherboards might have better, but mine sure sucks. Sure it supports surround sound, but if it's not giving me good sound thanks to a poor anti-imaging filter, then what's the point?
 
what's the diff between generic 1 and generic 2 converters?

I'm sorry but i don't know what you're talking about

i am far from a pro when it comes to the hardware side of all of this... :(

how could i test to see what i have or find out more on this subject?
