Herbi-Whore
Ive finally got this soundcard (delta 66) in my puter and ready to rock after the holidays...

So i record from input 1 and 2 (and 3 and 4 even)

Upon Playback everything starts nice...by the end of the tune everythings outta sync...wtf?

I have all the buffers cranked...is this a problem with my computer being too slow and a general POS ? (533 mhz compaq :D)

Whoa, that should not be happening. Are you using the latest drivers, and which driver model have you chosen in n-Track (WDM, ASIO, etc)?

Slackmaster 2000

drivers

I do have the latest drivers for the soundcard actually, I kinda went through hell installing it, so I know for sure that is the case. As far as ASIO oe WDM, neither :D...its MME. Im running windows 98se, there is no WDM drivers for 98, only for newer os's. And ASIO I dont use, but Ill be damned if I can remember specifically why, some weird conflict I think.

I may have made a mistake actually in regard to how many inputs I am recording at once, but in any case nothing is working, except for one track at a time. In the one instance, I recorded my drummer and myself playing guitar (in's 1 & 2), right from the start everything is messed up....when playing back through my soundblaster (this is the part where you call me a dumbass). When I run it out of the 66 there is no sync problems, altho there is still spots where it pops and clicks, it definately isnt nice.

Another scenario, however has left me with sync problems. In this case I recorded a nice little acoustic guitar part, then rewound it, and recorded a bass line over it (seperate track of course). Upon playback either through the soundblaster or 66 the bass winds up finishing the song almost a half measure ahead of the guitar!!!

I really dont have a clue here, this is all fairly new to me, I really did jump in over my head, but I figure Im a good swimmer. I bought the soundcard first, and knew full well my computer isnt up too par. I do plan on getting a standalone DAW built ASAP, but in the meantime I also FIGURE I can record at least one tune on this wonderful email device. I also have this funky feeling the soundblaster may be interfering...but Ive read a lot of people around have two cards hooked up no biggy.

Anyhow, thanks for your reply.

When you say you have the newest drivers are you saying that because you just went to M-audio's website and downloaded them? The drivers they send with the cards are usually old. You need to get the latest from the website.

You might also want to ask over at the N-track website forum . There are a lot of guys there that use older machines and have good luck with them.

Did'nt mean to imply that N-track forum is a better place for information. Just offered it as another source. I see a lot of folks over there using your sound card. Most of them like it. Just thought you could run a search there and maybe find the answer to you question.

The driver thing was just in case you weren't aware of it. I see that you are.

I have a Delta 1010 and use ASIO. Works well, but I have a P4 1.7 so that may not matter for your needs.

im certainly no expert but uhh...try unchecking "keep audio devices open"

File>Settings>Preferences>Audio Devices>Advanced>Keep Audio Devices Open (unchecked)

notta, zero, ziltch

well...Ive triee these things, and nothing is working for me. I might feed my computer back to the guy that sold it too me :D. Actually, in all seriousness, I believe it is time for a new machine to be built. Thanks for the replies.
